Thanks for the advice you gave me a couple of weeks back. We had a lovely long weekend in Vermont, focused mainly on the "Northeast Kingdom" area, which is quite remote... and the leaves were lovely (and we even saw a moose!). I'll have to make a return trip next year.
I have to say, I think it is just about the most beautiful scenery I've seen on the East coast.
Now I think I need to have a summer/fall retirement home in Vermont, and a winter/spring one in, oh, maybe San Diego? Now there's just that pesky matter of winning the lottery to pay for it all...

Rhonda, did you fly or drive? And it is nice to have a great vacation and come back refreshed.

Flew from DC (BWI airport, actually) to Manchester, NH, then drove. Not that much driving, really, esp if you're used to distances in the West. And Southwest has great sale fares to Manchester ($34/each way).
It was WONDERFUL!!! I envy those of you in Boston who are closer and can pop over any weekend! I think H and I need to do more of this, now that we have an "empty nest." Of course, we have no $$ because of tuition payments! Oh well, someday hopefully we'll have the time AND the money!
We are planning a trip to India in Jan this year, since D now has enough time over winter break (compared to HS) that we can go. Will be H's first trip there (he is not Indian).

Rhonda, I was thinking of you today on one of my many drives in fact. Funny that you now posted because I was going to post and ask you if you ever came up here. The reason I was thinking of you is because it is a gorgeous blue sky day and the foliage is becoming peak here and there are tourists from all over. I was hoping you made it up. It definitely is a beautiful place to visit and surely to live. For that, we are lucky. Considering each of our cars will be driving 200 miles apiece today to work and child's activities, at least it is a beautiful ride. I am glad you had such a great trip. I wonder where you stayed.
My next trip is to Boston (to see two colleges for younger child) and onto Parent Weekend at Brown.
Susan

We stayed at a remote B and B (about 3 miles off highway 16, I think, on a dirt road). It was very nice, I ate BIG breakfasts for two days (enough that we weren't hungry for lunch) and it was very homey and clean. The proprietor was a doll. Bought some maple syrup of course, and those fantastic sugar maple candies (which I love).
