Our son does not seem to want to get involved in any clubs or after school activities, other than the minimum number of community service hours he is required to fulfill. He is in the top 10% of his class, but I think he is hurting his chances for admission at a real good college. What do you think?

Not intending to sound sarcastic--But what does it mean to be a "real good college"?

What grade is your son in?
People sometimes have erroneous notions about what constitutes ECs. Working qualifies; community service qualifies; music, whether school-based or not qualifies; research qualifies, sports certainly qualify. In other words, it is very possible that your son has ECs without your realizing that they are ECs.

But sitting at home IMing friends and playing video games probably doesn't count as an EC (too bad, my D seemed to do a lot of that sometimes).
What DOES your S do when he comes home from school? What does he do on the weekends?
