Three in and five to go!!
| By Soozievt (Soozievt) on Tuesday, October 05, 2004 - 09:22 pm: Edit |
First one went in today actually. It was a lot to have one pretty comprehensive one done this early in the season but it is, yay! Seven to go. This first one was rolling admissions and one of her first choices and a LOT of work. This was earlier than my first child had to have an app in by. But she is on a roll wtih her plan of action and hopefully will start the next one within this week. There are some aspects that can be used again and then obviously some new essays will need to be written. But now the resume and recs and other things are done once, so it does get a little easier. Then again, there is lots to do.
Chinaman, where is your son applying? I am rooting for him as he sounds like a really neat kid.
Pokey, impressed that your child has three done at this juncture. However, I think what my child has done is pretty good considering she is getting home most nights at 11 PM from her ECs and has them all weekend long as well, plus homework. I wonder how she will do it all but this is a priority and somehow things are moving along.

The only reason three have been completed is because her high school requires applications to be turned in by set times depending on when they are due to the college. Rolling admission is due first, then ED, and so on by the due dates. This has helped numerous kids get their applications done without procrastinating too much.

I have one (ED) that just needs to be checked over once or twice more before I mail it out this weekend, and six others in various states of completion depending on if I need to write new essays or secure alternate teacher recs, etc. I'm hoping to finish those before I hear back from ED, just so that if I don't get in (which is a very real possibility) my life won't be quite so stressed.
Like Pokey's D's school, our counseling office has certain deadlines for applications to be submitted, but we only need to submit the secondary school report by that date, so I imagine there are many students who just print out that sheet and are still procrastinating.
My parents have been quite uninvolved in this whole process, and I think that has made it much less stressful than I had expected. We discussed everything before I left for the summer, and it has been understood that if I need help or advice they are there for me, but other than that all the arrangements are left to me. I know that might sound horrendous to many of you, but to each their own.

Okay, you are all giving me a slight anxiety attack.
How do you complete all this stuff if the FAFSA can't be sent in till the first of the year? Sorry, I'm new to this. Obviously my D does not have an application finished yet although she's actively working on both the common app and the texas one. Any info appreciated.

I've written down a lot of jumbled ideas for essays, and that's about it. With SATs on Saturday and midterms on Friday and later in the month, it's hard to find time. SAT is first priority, I think the app should be second.
Maybe I should ask for those recs tomorrow.

soozivet:
Let us see that his first choice has become Yale because of a music and theater. Music, writing, volunteer work, theater and politics are some his interest. He says he wants to continue with theater in college as he may have very little opportunity in theater after college. He loves other school and it is hard for him to go but he has made it clear whichever school offers him best deal he will choose as each school on his list has lot to offer. Time will tell us where he can get in.

7 in and one acceptance to University of Oregon. It's a big relief just knowing that there is one!

Congratulations on the admission, yes knowing that there is one does certainly relieve the stress

mjcps: you don't have to have the financial aid forms done to apply to schools. The deadlines all come before the FAFSA timetable, so one can't depend on the other.
