It seems that there was life before College Confidential ...

The good old prehistoric days of Collegeprepservices.com

It all started in June 1999. :)

This site, Voronwe?

Sorry Xdad - on two computers with up to date spyware and adware software, some VERY serious offenders like Gator tried to install themselves. On a third computer nothing happened - but I don't know if the third computer (the one I am borrowing now) as any spyware software. I am not sure what happened. Others mileage may vary....

Hey all, now that we're on the subject of spyware/adware--my laptop is seriously infected as of a couple of days ago. What programs do I need to fix it? Do I need to basically wipe out stuff on my hard drive and start all over? And what protection do I need to install?
(I know it's OT but perhaps a quick answer from Voronwe will save me :-)

As you know, spyware and adware cannot be fixed by virus software. Ad-aware is free and easy - you can get it at lavasoft.de (not dot com). I also use Spybot Search and Destroy (do a google - also free). If the demons came in through AIM, I think you may need more help ---- my kids se a program called "Dead Aim" but there are other manual ways to delete the stuff as well...

Ad-aware is very good - I run it quite often on all our machines. Voronwe - what do you get from Spybot Search adn Destroy that you don't get from Ad-Aware?

Thanks for the information. I don't have AIM on my computer so that isn't the problem. The internet sometimes is more trouble than it's worth....
