Any parents have any information on this? I got a letter from the QuestBridge program inviting me to apply..

Since it's free, I find it harmless. My parents financially qualify, anyway.

I remember several posters got one. Tri_N and Lamom's kid. Do a search and their posts should come up.

I think it is supposed to be fairly prestigious, but others may know better. I agree that you should certainly apply, then if you get in, you can decide whether to go.

Does it help you get into any school in particular? I see all their partner schools but.. *shrug*

It doesn't really help your chance much but the full ride is very nice.

Is there a dream school on that list?

No, not really. There is a school I may be applying to. But, I was just curious.

I know that Amherst looks extremely positively on Questbridge participants. They will invite you (at their expense) to the campus for a look-see, and for the past decade has been gearing admissions to low-income applicants (now 15.6% of the student body, roughly 2.5 times what it is at Harvard, and 60% more than Yale.)

Unless one of those schools is your dream school, you shouldn't participate in the program. Why? It's mandatory that you attend the college if they choose you.

With your financial aid need, your need will be covered by all the prestigious colleges/universities that you've been accepted to. Out of the list, I would only recommend Amherst as a LAC, and Duke and Rice as universities.

My dream school is the Hoya Saxa Blue and Grey.. (Georgetown), but Rice follows quickly after that. But.. .. I'm interested in that campus look see thing..

The match partners list is great:

Amherst
Bowdoin
Duke
Grinnell
Rice
Trinity
Williams

So admittance into one of these programs will be BINDING? That sucks.

Yes, I was going to apply earlier this summer for the program, but left it alone after a while of tinkering and figuring out that the site hadn't been thrown together for the current application season yet.

It was a very good thing I had done so, because at the time I wasn't phased by admissions being binding. Now I have two schools that I consider my favorite, and it would have been a shame to close off other alleyways to myself. Granted, the money would have been nice, but in the case of most "top schools" they do a fantastic job of making sure an accepted student can attend. That's the impression taht I get, anywhow.
