OK parents, I live in a single parent home where my mother is the sole income owner. However, she makes too much money. I am her only child. We just sent our FAFSA to the regional office this week. (Her taxes are very difficult to do and she didn't recieve her W-2 information until March.)

Well, in our state, the FAFSA was due February 21, 2003. In a few days, it will be April! They say it takes four weeks to process, complete, and send the data to my six colleges. (Good News: I've been accepted into four of my six schools so far...other two still pending)

Will I receive any financial aid? We are in huge debt and my mom is eligible for retirement.

you can do it online
It shows you what your EFC is immediately and info will be sent to your colleges
If you make a mistake you can go back and correct it

I hope you have contacted the financial aid offices at the college that you've applied to and explained your dilemma. Depending on the school, you may find a kindly aid officer who will be able to help you work through your difficulties. Keep in mind, however, that finaid deadlines tend to be far more inflexible than admission deadlines, and you may not be able to get the aid you need once the college has made its admission decisions because these will be tied in with aid decisions.

If you haven't called the colleges on your list, do so right away. Be persistent but patient. Act appreciative, not entitled, and you may find a guardian angel at one of them who can help you navigate the finaid maze even at this late date. Good luck.
