I have heard somewhere that colleges only look at your top 3 SAT II scores. Is that true? If it is, why would anyone want to spend the effort taking 5 or 6 of them?
Also, my daughter is fluent in our native language, Chinese. She has taken the SAT IIs for that and gotten the easy 800. Should we submit that, or would be discounted/discredited under the only 3 SATII scores policy? She is taking Spanish too and could maybe crack 700 on the Spanish SATs. She is aiming for a top ivy league school, would it be to her disadvantage to take the Spanish test if she won't get a high 700s score? Or would it make her look almost trilingual?
Thanks!

It's precisely because colleges usually look at the top 3 that some students attempt a larger number. Some colleges do look for the category of test, though. I.e., they may want a math, a literature/writing, etc.

So do you think I should have my daughter not submit her Chinese score--although it would be one of her highest scores, being 800, it would be discredited because it is her native language?

the college board is going to report all of them, so the college you apply to will see them all. You don't have to choose what to submit.
But, they may only give you room for 3scores on the application. If they ask for 3 specific tests and only give you space on the app for 3 scores, I would just write down the ones they ask for.

I believe most selective schools want to see the student's SAT II Writing score as well as their Math Level IC or Math Level IIC score. Then one other score. If the student has expressed an interest in one area of study, the school may well take that score into consideration.
