Has anyone compared shipping methods and prices? My daughter wants to take along her computer and a ton of books. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get those things clear across the country?

UPS is easy, reliable, and trackable. Books are super-heavy, of course - they could go US Mail at book rate if you want to save a few bucks.

It may cost a few bucks, but I think UPS is a steal compared to the alternatives, like renting a van and driving for thousands of miles.

If you are shipping the computer, use the original boxes if you have them. Or, buy a new one (maybe with free shipping) and have it shipped straight to school.

Thank you so much! Now....any good tips on convincing her that she simply won't need all of those books with her? And that she doesn't need to take EVERYTHING from her room?

I pity her roommate! :)

Our neighbor's kid went to a school that was too far away to drive. They let the kid pack a few boxes & suitcases, & just bought stuff when they got there. Fairly stress free, cut down on freight & packing, and the stuff was new.
