I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend.

Her student had an incident that resulted in a short suspension from school; the guidance counselor will be addressing it in the counselor's rec and and the student will probably be addressing it in an essay or as part of a cover letter accompanying undergrad college apps.

Friend is looking past college to law school and is very concerned that this incident (a one-time bad choice) will be haunting her student when he applies to Law school.

So, what do the law schools actually get? I'm thinking that grad /law / med schools would only get college transcript, college recs, and GRE /LSAT /MCAT scores. Friend is specifically wondering what happens to the undergrad college application: has it become part of permanent college records; will it be part of college records sent to law school?

Thanks

A high school suspension will not follow this student to graduate school, assuming, of course, that you aren't talking about an episode that resulted in a criminal record. Grad school applications--and law school applications in particular--may indeed ask about previous arrests or convictions.

Anything submitted as part of your application to college becomes a permanent part of your record with that college. Nevertheless, the only thing the college will be sending to any law school is your transcript from college. Law schools don't ask and don't care about high school except to show you went. I am assuming we are not talking about a conviction for a crime (actual conviction, not just an arrest), as that may be asked by the law school and in fact is a question usually asked on applications law school graduates make to become admitted to the bar of a state.
