The way I remember these is difference of the two digits times 9.

'WP' has a value of 10*W + P, and 'PW' has a value of 10*P + W. 'WP - PW' = 10W + P - 10P -W = 9(W-P), which = 72.

So, W - P = 8; also, W must be a single digit i.e. <= 9, and P must be > 0 (otherwise 'PW' would just be 'W'). The only possible solution is W=9, P=1.
