my ap us teacher is crappy crappy crappy. his grading is totally unrational (grading papers that is). i'm not just stating this cause i got a bad grade or whatnot, i can present you with evidence if you truly wish. anyway i dont feel like spending everyday of the year stressing out over the grades he will give on papers (which are the majority of the grades in that class).
So what I was going to do is drop the class but still take the ap test (lets say i will do well on it). will colleges find it impressive that you took an H class and took the ap test and got a 5 on it? or will they look down upon the fact that you dropped the ap class?
what's your advice?

I studied for the APUSH test on my own successfully last year. It is certainly doable. You can look for some hints on my webpage: http://coopgm.dyn.dhs.org:81/secooper87/history
In the way of colleges not finding it impressive, don't worry-- just get your TA to write it into your recommendation. The fact that you were motivated enough to do it on your own will look very impressive. Just make sure you learn how to do the DBQs and FRQs.

Had a teacher, too.
I bought REA and Princeton Review's books and just learned from those. Go to APstudent.net or something that (google for AP US History) and join the forums.
With those three things, I got a 5.
