which one should i retake if i want to apply ED somewhere like amherst? my other scores are ok, 800-math, 750-chemistry, 800-IIC. so is it more important to up my verbal score or my writing score? thanks!

Well, you could always retake the SAT I AND II... but if you can only take one, take writing. The verbal SAT combined with your math gives you a 1490 which is perfectly respectable for Amherst. The 660 is a bit "below par" if you want to nitpick, in terms of SAT II scores- but not bad. But you could probably boost it upon retaking it. Good luck!
