Hey guys, there is an online free IQ test that takes about 13 minutes. They even email you a results analysis when your done with what you are (av, smart, genious, ..) anyways, i took it and got a 166. You all have fun with it. http://www.iqtest.com/

By Montydsw11 (Montydsw11) on Monday, March 24, 2003 - 07:13 pm: Edit

lol... I got a 151, and that is higher than I have ever scored on an IQ test. Notice in the email they send you they don't look at "below average" people. It is all a scam. 151 is in the top 0.005% of the population, and I don't think I am there...

whats the highest youve ever made on a real one?

By Montydsw11 (Montydsw11) on Monday, March 24, 2003 - 07:58 pm: Edit

I scored a 135 when I was 10, I took one last year and got a 139, so I guess I am somewhere in that range...

10 points on the Wechler IQ test(that's what this is) is huge... a whole standard deviation.

Can a person's IQ even change, or is it static? I always thought that it was static....

By Dxiw (Dxiw) on Monday, March 24, 2003 - 08:44 pm: Edit

so are u part of mensa?

By Montydsw11 (Montydsw11) on Monday, March 24, 2003 - 10:14 pm: Edit

no, your IQ will never change (theoretically)

By Curiousone (Curiousone) on Monday, March 24, 2003 - 10:23 pm: Edit

I took that IQ test (on iqtest.com) twice...once last year and once several years before that...I got a 140 (several years ago) and a 161, so I would agree that it is a scam, because I am certainly no prodigy or genius and I can't understand why it differed so greatly, and secondly because the more I practice for the damn SAT's from the 10 Real SATs book the stupider I get...first I had a 1480 on the Nov 94 exam - granted that was pre-recentered scale but I thought the new scale made it higher, not lower; then I got a 1350 on the practice test given by the CB this year, and then a 1370 on the May 2000 SAT, which is what I got on my PSAT in October. WHY AM I NOT IMPROVING?! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!

Sorry, I'm really frustrated. And my self-esteem is not that high when I try so hard and can't even break 1400...granted, I still have some time before the April administration, but not a lot...

*sigh*

Anyway, on a completely different topic, does anyone want to give me math strategies for the SATs...I keep getting mid-to-high 600s when all I want is a 700 ::weeps::...I'm in Honors Pre Calc, too. Anyway, I tend to have the most problems with the geometry and sequence type stuff, so if anyone has general tips on those I would appreciate it a lot.

Also, does anyone know of any free prep programs online besides number2.com?

Thanks.

whats the minimum score to get into mensa?

By Xiggi (Xiggi) on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 01:02 am: Edit

IMHO that test is a pure joke. Easy questions that do not seem to require any real thinking.

It seems like a big scam.

Anyhow, anyone interested in the subject should do a google search and you will find a plethora a "hard" tests and organizations like Mensa, HIGH IQ society.

One famous test was published in Omni in 1985 and called MEGA. It was a test without time limit. It is hard to find it now but there is a different version called Titan.

Here is one of the sections....kinda applicable for us who complain about difficult analogies:

VERBAL ANALOGIES

Write the word or prefix that best completes each analogy. For example, in the analogy MAN : WOMAN :: ANDRO- : ?, the best answer would be GYNO-.

1. STRIP : MÖBIUS :: BOTTLE : ?
2. THOUGHT : ACTION :: OBSESSIVE : ?
3. LACKING MONEY : PENURIOUS :: DOTING ON ONE'S WIFE : ?
4. MICE : MEN :: CABBAGES : ?
5. TIRE : RETREAD :: PARCHMENT : ?
6. ALL IS ONE : MONISM :: ALL IS SELF : ?
7. SWORD : DAMOCLES :: BED : ?
8. THING : DANGEROUS :: SPRING : ?
9. HOLLOW VICTORY : PYRRHIC :: HOLLOW VILLAGE : ?
10. PILLAR : OBELISK :: MONSTER : ?
11. 4 : HAND :: 9 : ?
12. GOLD : MALLEABLE :: CHALK : ?
13. EASY JOB : SINECURE :: GUIDING LIGHT : ?
14. LEG : AMBULATE :: ARM : ?
15. MOSQUITO : MALARIA :: CANNIBALISM : ?
16. HEAR : SEE :: TEMPORAL : ?
17. ASTRONOMY AND PHYSICS : ASTROPHYSICS :: HISTORY AND STATISTICS : ?
18. JEKYLL : HYDE :: ELOI : ?
19. UNIVERSE : COSMO- :: UNIVERSAL LAWS : ?
20. SET OF SETS NOT MEMBERS OF THEMSELVES : RUSSELL :: DARKNESS OF THE NIGHT SKY IN AN INFINITE UNIVERSE : ?
21. TEACHING : UPLIFTING :: PEDAGOGIC : ?
22. LANGUAGE GAMES : LUDWIG :: PIANO CONCERTI FOR THE LEFT HAND : ?
23. IDOLS : TWILIGHT :: MORALS : ?
24. SWEETNESS : SUFFIX :: BOATSWAIN : ?

Anyhow, here is a link to the complete test:

First of all, researchers from many different
fields have debated for years about what IQ 'is'
exactly, how to define it and how to test it.
There is no single definition, nor is there a
single 'test' for "IQ". As to whether IQ is
'static' or not, largely depends on how you define
IQ. Congitive researchers certainly do agree that
'genetic' components and 'environmental'
contributions can't be easily seperated. -Nathan

To Natedawg (Nathan) ~
First off, I'd just like to say that I appreciate your input. Much of what you've been saying on the forums interests me a lot. I understand that you are going into psychology, no?

Anyways, as for IQ. Please excuse my apparently low IQ, but...
"Cognitive researchers certainly do agree that 'genetic' components and 'environmental' contributions can't be easily separated."
>>What exactly do you mean? The whole thing fascinates me, but I'm curious. Are you basically saying that researchers are having trouble determining what percent of IQ is determined by genetics, and what percent is determined by environment? Also, one other question: Do you believe that scientists/researchers will have a much better understanding of what IQ really is, what it measures, and what its genetic/environmental components are in the future, or will it remain (to some degree) a mystery?...

Incognito...

If you do a quick google search with words like IQ Society or IQ Measuring, you will be flooded by hits.

There are a bunch of sites ranging from the simplistic one to the highly researched.

By the way, I got a bit interested in the subject since my dad had a bunch of related books in our library. He spent 2 years working in a governmental office where they used similar tests for recruiting purposes of "very intelligent" candidates. I asked him for his conclusions and he said that measuring "absolute" IQ is worthless and that most tests are fraudulent. The IQ tests that seem to have some validity are the ones specifically designed for a particular purpose. For instance, a company may want to ascertain abilities like spatial visualization or interpretation of abstract instructions.

Obviously, that is only one opinion :)
