The following are the May and June 2004 SAT scores of two students who took the SAT in the same test center.

May 1, 2004:
Student #1 - 640 math, 780 verbal
Student #2 - 780 math, 700 verbal

June 5, 2004:
Student #1 - 720 math, 800 verbal
Student #2 - 800 math, 720 verbal

Please tell me if I should be suspicious about these scores between the May and June administrations of the SAT I.

Why should you be suspicious? They seem like natural progressions to me. Student 2 is obviously good with math, while student 1 is good with verbal. However, student 2 does not increase much in verbal despite it being the weaker subject of his, but student 1 increases his math score pretty dramatically.

I may be overreacting, but the reason I am suspicious is because these two students are from the same school. My nephew, who knows these two students, informed me that they mentioned about a week before the test that they knew that they were going to get an 800 on their stronger subject and bring their score to over a 1500.

They already had pretty high scores to begin with. If they did extra studying or something they may have felt confident that they could ensure their respective 800s

Umm... stupid? Dude, I say that I'm going to get an awesome score all the time, and at times I do. So, what? Each administration is different. One may do better in one than the other. Why are you chastizing someone for doing well? That's just stupid if you ask me.
