Hi all,

I have just started prepping for the April SAT's (yeah, I am a little late - just have had too much to do - besides, the 10 Real SAT tip section says you should only have 12-20 hours of actual study time for the real test). I took the November 1994 test and got a 760 V, 720 M, total of 1480, which seemed a little high as that's actually right around where I'm aiming for. I was somewhat alarmed to see in an earlier post from two months ago that someone had received the same score on the Nov 94 test and ended up only getting a 1320 on the actual SAT. I took the PSAT in October 02 (70V/67M/73W=210) and 01 (63V/67M/63W=193) respectively.

Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to ask is how everyone who practiced using 10 Real SAT's (second ed., if that means anything) and the various tests within did on the old tests versus their PSAT and more importantly their real SAT I score. I'm just trying to get a sense of how well I will end up doing if I just go in having taken four or five of the tests in the book.

Thanks, everyone! :)

One more thing...on the Nov 94 scoring sheet, it took into account number of correct answers and number of incorrect answers, but not questions left blank. On the PSAT you were encouraged to leave questions blank as they would neither subtract nor add points for an unanswered question, but would take off for incorrect solutions. Just wondering if that holds true for the real SAT I, or incorrect and blank answers are scored the same.

in the ten real sat books i got around 1350s but on the actual test i got a 1400, it seemed like my verbal improved from the tests that i took in the 10 real sats book

The nervousness of taking the REAL SATs is much more than a mock SAT

i'm a bad test taker:

10 Real SATs - i score in 1550s

REAL SAT - 1470

The real SATs are a pretty good indicator unless you do get really nervous, don't sleep the night before, there's a distraction in the classroom (like the kid sniffling every five seconds next to me - wanted to kill her)...

You might want to try more recent SATs, tho. 1994 tests are WAY old.

10 real sats: about 1500 avg. never got lower than 800 for math and avg. of about 700 for verbal

real score: 1550 (I only took it once) 790 for verbal and only 760 math

the 1994 one really pissed me off for verbal...

Well I'm praying for a 1500+ hopefully 1600 on the april. From 10 real sats my scores are: 1490,1530,1510,1520,1560,1590

I took in october and got a 1450 but I didn't take any full practice sat's before that, I made a 211 (1440) on my psat at the time.

for what it's worth, i tutored a student for the SAT I using 10 Real SATs. Over time, he took all ten tests and averaged approximately 750verbal/800math. he took the SAT I twice scoring 690verbal/800math each time, confirming my suspicion that the verbal-section tests in the book were less difficult than actual tests.

Really?
Did anybody else have any experiences like that?...

I took the SAT as a Junior without preping in November and got 570M & 580V. I have been studying on and off since then and yesterday I took the May, 1996 test (my first test from the 10 REAL SATs). To my surprise I got a 710M and 600V. Can this be possible?

"Can this be possible?"

Of course it can be possible. But were expecting to do better or worse then the recent 1310?...

By Mac (Mac) on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 12:27 pm: Edit

I was actually expecting a lower score than 710 in math. My score went up 140 points with only a bit of additional preparation. This seems unrealistic. I am going to take another test from the 10 REAL SAT this afternoon. Wish month/year would you recommend, and why?

Considering the fact that it's virtually a curved exam, it doesnt really matter which one you take. Some may be harder than others, but the curve would be easier on the harder exams, so it kind of makes the tests comparable in terms of difficulty (IMO)...

By Mekker3 (Mekker3) on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 07:52 pm: Edit

I don't really think that the curves are accurate... on the verbal, no matter what the curve I get around 4 wrong and that can vary from a 750 to an 800... In addition, I get around the same number wrong in math regardless of the curve

By Incognito (Incognito) on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 08:00 pm: Edit

It may be because the curve is predetermined on every test on the basis of previous equating sections. (That's just my guess, at least)...but the truth is that nobody can really say what test is the easiest. Nobody really knows but the CB. There have been plenty of threads on this forum about people trying to figure out what month offers the easiest test. BTW, if you want to know what month offers the easiest test, I'd say that it is the month during which YOU are best prepared to take the test...the best way to determine whether or not your prep has actually paid off would be to take a practice and see how you do.

Personally, I got 1600 on 4 of the "Real SATs" and no less than 1580 on any of the others but I ended up getting a 1560 on the actual test.
