I got a 740 on the math IIC. For HYPS, should I retake? I assume yes, but I wanted some opinions. If I retake and get an 800 will colleges care much about the 740?

I think you should definitely retake. The curve is just so generous HYPS will be looking for an 800. They want those high percentiles.

I personally think SAT II's aren't worth retaking. They don't make THAT much of a difference on college apps - the time studying and worrying and then money spent is better spent winning awards or getting super-ready for the SAT I if you haven't taken it yet.
