Could anyone post how many points they gained between sophomore PSAT and SAT?

By Over30 (Over30) on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 08:51 pm: Edit

My son went up 38 points.

up 110 or 11 whichever way you want to look at it

By Tenbelow (Tenbelow) on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 09:32 pm: Edit

My sophomore year I got a 209 on the PSAT. Junior year I unfortunately dropped to a 201, meaning I probably just scraped the bottom for receiving NM Commended.

I got a 1500 on the SAT. Sorry, I don't have the individual scores for the 3 PSAT subsections, so I can't tell how many points I went up. If you don't get the type of score you were hoping for on the PSAT, don't worry a whole lot about it. In my case, the test wasn't that great an indicator. I got in the low 60s on Verbal and Writing when I took it. On the SAT I got a 790 and 800 for Verbal the first and second times I took it.

By Nike1800 (Nike1800) on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 09:46 pm: Edit

i went down quite a bit;

PSAT: 148
Verbal: 710
Math: 770

1st SAT: 1340
Verbal: 650
Math: 690
2nd SAT: 1440
Verbal: 700
Math: 740

My theory is that since the PSAT was shorter, I made less mistakes.

I didn't improve AT ALL on verbal from the PSAT, weird

Sophmore PSAT:
63 Verbal
69 Math
68 Writing

Junior SATs/SAT IIs:

Granted, my Junior PSATs were significantly better than those from my Sophmore year; but I jumped 130 points in Verbal, 110 in Math, and 120 in Writing. Guess I was really, really tired that one Saturday at the beginning of Sophmore year. :)

Junior PSAT:
Verbal - 47
Math - 50
Writing - 47

Junior SAT:

Verbal - 570
Math - 650
Writing - Still Pending

Yep, a 100 point gain on the Verbal, and 150 Point gain in the Math. So, a total of 250. So, yeah, if your counselor tells you that you can't improve much, that's ••••••••. Seriously, you can even go from a 1000 to a 1500, if you have the right mentality. I went from 970 to 1220. Still lame, but quite good, and I plan to get a 1450+ on my Senior year SAT. Good luck, man.

Junior year I took the PSAT and SAT a few days apart.

PSAT Math: 64
SAT Math: 670
PSAT Verbal: 79
SAT Verbal: 800

I still think the PSAT was harder to score high on. Hopefully, I'll bump that math up a few points this fall without having a sharp decline in verbal...

I didn't do any prep for any of them, and had 7 months between the jr psat and sat.

Chicagojen> how come your school gives psat's soph and junior year? i thought they were only for junior year.

By Chicagojen (Chicagojen) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 07:48 pm: Edit

Sophomores just have the option of taking them with the jrs. Only like 10 or so usually do though.

PSAT 61 math, 60 verbal
SAT 780 math, 700 verbal
Did poorly on PSAT because our school counselors' position on it is "the state pays for it so just show up and answer a few of them". My school is joke, our average SAT score is 850.

I did better on my PSATs than my SATs.

(both junior year):
PSAT, October 2003
760 Verbal
800 Math
720 Writing skills

SAT, May 2004
790 Verbal
670 Math

I'm guessing that's because I prepared a lot for the PSATs and was so bogged down by my full IB schedule in the spring that I didn't have any time to prepare for the SAT.

By Insanity (Insanity) on Thursday, July 01, 2004 - 01:14 pm: Edit

8th grade SAT:
660 Math
630 Verbal

10th grade PSAT:
680 Math
640 Verbal

11th grade PSAT:
710 Math
690 Verbal

11th grade SAT(June):
740 Math
720 Verbal

I didn't do any prep, it just occured naturally that I went up by increments.
