Hey! English is not my first language. So I was wondering whether doing Crossword puzzles help my vocabulary? Thanx.

I would just recommend reading, but I guess crossword puzzles may help.

Crossword puzzles only test your knowledge of pop culture/etc... I guess it could help you practice spell words, but I would say reading would be the best alternative. You could get Muzzy. It's this language "class" on tape. It's geared towards kids, but I don't see why you couldn't benefit. Also, if you don't feel like spending money on novels, just sign up with sparknotes, and then search a novel, some of the novels are posted word for word, and are free. So, you can read online.

Thank you for your input. Can you please tell me what genres of novels, or writer's novels would help me strengthen my english? I am specifically preparing towards taking a test like GRE. I want to start early as I am starting college this Fall.
