What did you get the first time you took the SATs? 2nd time? etc. etc. and what is your highest composite?
1st time: 1340 (670 V, 670 M)
2nd time: 1450 (720 V, 730 M)
Only taken two times so far
By Benzinspeicher (Benzinspeicher) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 04:00 pm: Edit
1st: 1270 (710 M, 560 V)
2nd: 1310 (720 M, 590 V)
3rd: 1320 (800 M, 520 V)
Composite: 1390 (800 M, 590 V)
Finally stopped making careless errors in math. Had trouble reading that day though.

How did you ever get over the careless mistake thing?? I am making really simple mistakes... (i.e. one time the problem said positive, i thought it meant even) I keep getting in the low 700's, but I know I am more than capable of making a 800. Did you do any special prep, or something during the test to stop making those stupid careless mistakes?

First: 780m 620v
Second: 720m 610v
I started reading The Da Vinci Code the night before and I couldn't put it down until 2am. bad call on my part.... Ill be taking it in November or sometime around then hoping to get my verbal to up near 700
By Gmf05 (Gmf05) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 05:02 pm: Edit
First: 710 M 740 V
I only retook it to bring up my math since I had gotten 80 on the PSAT and 800 on the Math IIC and knew I was easily capable. The verbal I wasn't really concerned with but I just had a good test day or something.
By Yermama (Yermama) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 05:10 pm: Edit
First: 600 M 610 V = 1210
Second: 640 M 780 V = 1450
By Iceangeljt (Iceangeljt) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 05:38 pm: Edit
I didn't do any prep... the second time I just felt like I had more time and didnt have to rush. I had time to check over my answers.

1st: 1270 - 660M
2nd: 1310 - 680M
3rd: 1310 - 700M
Gonna take it a 4th time in Oct...
Hoping for 700+ V <--(big stretch for me) and 800 M.
Hopefully, a summer's worth of reading will help me. (anyone recommend any good books for CR?)
By Feuler (Feuler) on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 12:39 am: Edit
First- 1590 (790 V, 800M).
Well unless you count the 1210 (590 V, 620 M) I got in 7th grade. But middle school doesn't count.
By Bettina (Bettina) on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 02:18 am: Edit
DD got 1490 (770 V, 710 M)
We are figuring no retake is necessary since these scores won't keep you out of any school in the nation. Is there something missing in this logic? I haven't heard that any better scores will help you particularly.
Didn't I just read that Yale had the highest avg scores in the last freshman class ever, and it was 1500?
I'm very impressed with the increases in some of the scores above, though. Good work! We are told a 50 point swing either way is in the norm.
DD did not study, except to do a practice test or two the day before (College Board's 10 Real Tests.) Friends who took the study class offered at school (through a 3rd party) were generally disappointed with results. These were generally not the top students, but still good students in a rigorous prep school, fyi.

Facolboy: I don't really know how to account for my subpar score the first time, except that I hadn't studied much. I guess it was a blessing in disguise since it forced me to study a bit more intensely the following summer. I'm really a pretty good student and I think the second time around was much more like my real ability.

Toomuch2say87, what type of prep/studying did you do to raise your scores that much?! Congrats.. that's awesome!

I've only taken it once. Maybe I'll take the ACT's instead in September.

Soulofheaven: You're my inspiration right now! lol, from a 1320 to a 1580.
First time: 1220 (610M 610V)
Second time: 1320 (690M 630V)
I'm going to take it in October or November, hopefully for a 1580 just like soulofheaven! Just can't make my careless math errors. I know I can get an 800 with math. Need some help thought with deciding which test I should take, October or November. What do you guys think? Are the curves better in November? Is the test harder in October? Insight please...

2nd: 1500 (700m, 800v)
I've gotten a 700 math on 3 of the 10 Reals I've taken. I'm taking it one more time just to see if I can improve it... I seem stuck at this number! I'm perfectly happy with my score, though!
By Soulofheaven8 (Soulofheaven8) on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 09:26 am: Edit
Adidasty: will you be applying ED/EA anywhere? If so, the November score may not reach them in time for consideration. Hence if you will be taking the ED route, I suggest you take the October one.
However, have you taken all your SAT IIs? If not, then the October date should be used to complete the SAT II requirements. (assuming you are doing ED)
If you will be applying Regular decision only, then there is no difference between October and November.

By Calidan (Calidan) on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 - 05:31 pm: Edit
1st: 640 V + 660 M = 1300
2nd: 700 V + 710 M = 1410
I might retake again to get 1450+... I know that I can improve both by at least 20 pts. with some more studying (i.e. vocab, since I haven't ever done it!). But overall, I'm really happy and proud of my scores (especially my most recent one! It took a lot of studying.).

Are these the real SATs. Like the ones you actually registered for. Or does this include the NMSQT (sort of PPSAT) that some kids take in 10th grade. I got a 1170 on my NMSQT, which doesnt count. Just wondering if your first scores included that.
