By Benzinspeicher (Benzinspeicher) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 01:47 am: Edit

While we all wait for our AP grades, let's start a post about our predictions and what we thought of the AP exams.

By Dredhead5000 (Dredhead5000) on Sunday, June 20, 2004 - 02:16 am: Edit

I'm more worried about the APs than I was the SATI or II. I took four tests this year, and I hope that at least two of them are fives.

Nope. It's just by phone at July 1, but usually a little before. Your scores will be mailed July 15.

Jcoach-

I highly doubt it. From what I know, you can only use a CREDIT card, and therefore gift cards and debit cards are not acceptable.

Despite the fact that it is sponsored by Visa, Visa is not the company that is billed, so I doubt they will accept it. I would just say use a regular credit card, or wait it out the extra 2 weeks. If you really are dying to use this card for 8 dollars, call their customer care number. Usually they give the number on the Scores by Phone Line, or on the collegeboard site.

I just did... not up.

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 04:28 pm: Edit

I don't know why everyone is thinking we should check after 4. When I got mine last year it was in the morning, and I am almost positive I called the night before and they weren't up. The SAT tests usually come up around 4:00 eastern time the day BEFORE they actually say they will be ready. AP's seem less predictable, probably because they need such a long time to grade them that any percent difference in how long it takes them to grade the tests is going to result in a much larger amount of days than the 10 day-ish grading period for the SAT's. Also, the SAT number tends to have the message "the system is down while we update our files" a few hours before the scores are available, while I am 99% positive there was no such message last year for the AP tests. Oh, and if anyone is still with me and cares about my other experiences calling the number, I took the SAT twice and once the scores were available on the internet first and once the phone service was ready first. And also, including SAT II's and whatnot, never have the scores been available the day they said they would be; they were always ready one day before, never earlier and never later. Of course this doesn't apply to AP's.

I can't believe I have spent that much time of my precious life calling the College Board to get my bloody test results. What's even sadder is how much I've analyzed exactly when my scores the scores become available!

By Mattman (Mattman) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 04:41 pm: Edit

What Kenenisa has said just reflects that people should continue to call and once they're available make it loud and clear so that all of us can get our scores. =]

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 04:44 pm: Edit

I JUST CALLED, THEY'RE UP!!!!!

Although for some reason, it said I got all 2's... Wow... I got all 5's last year, that's really weird. I just talked to a friend, too, and he called and got all 2's and was sure he got all 4's/5's... maybe the service is messed up?

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 04:45 pm: Edit

just a little humor to ease the anxiety... :)

By Starbucks (Starbucks) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 04:53 pm: Edit

Guys, as we all know, CollegeBoard monitors these boards. I'd think that they'd want to get rid of future rumors about early scores if they suspect that kids think they can get their scores early. So maybe they're looking at these posts and are purposefully delaying scores until july 1.

By Mattman (Mattman) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 05:13 pm: Edit

Sure hasn't stopped them in the past...

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 05:17 pm: Edit

Starbucks, are you joking? First, 99.999% of people have no idea these boards exist. The reason they release the scores early, I hypothesize, is so that nuts like us can get them early and free up the phone lines for July 1 when 99% of people are going to call. Why would they want it to be a "secret" that they release scores early?

By Meganc123 (Meganc123) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 05:43 pm: Edit

anyone call and get them yet?

By Mattman (Mattman) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 05:46 pm: Edit

Yeah, not up yet. I don't suppose they'd be put up on a Saturday or Sunday, eh?

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 06:40 pm: Edit

I don't think they'll put them up on Saturday or Sunday. I bet Monday or Tuesday, pretty much 50/50. I'll be surprised if they wait until Wednesday, and I'd bet a lot that they won't wait until Thursday.

By Captcalculus (Captcalculus) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 07:06 pm: Edit

i dont think normal people care enough to call for their scores.

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 07:10 pm: Edit

I think lots of "normal" people care enough to call for their scores. I'm not sure how many people care enough to start calling several times per day over a week before the scores are supposed to be released, which is what I did/am doing.

By Starbucks (Starbucks) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 08:08 pm: Edit

Kenenisa, I respect your argument, but at the same time, if 99.9999% of AP students dont know these boards exist, then I find it hard to believe that collegeboard would post grades a few days early to "free up the phone lines". I mean, how much difference will that .00001% make? Eh, I guess it's possible though.

By Sandwraith (Sandwraith) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 08:38 pm: Edit

but of the total amount of people that take AP tests, only a small portion of them actually call for scores. the people that call in for scores are the most devoted and the most obsessed of those test takers. these boards make up a decent selection of that group

By Captcalculus (Captcalculus) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 09:00 pm: Edit

maybe july 1st is an approximation, and they load the scores as soon as possible.

By Geoguy (Geoguy) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 09:46 pm: Edit

I have to get my scores as soon as they're up. My family and I are going on a cruise the week before they are mailed, and as much as I would try not to, I know I would end up thinking about my AP grades the entire time. I didn't think I'd care that much, but I do. I either got a 2 or 3 on both tests I took.

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 09:53 pm: Edit

These boards do not make up a decent selection of the devoted people. I have many, many friends who would call for their AP grades and who never even USE the internet, much less come to a site like this.

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 09:55 pm: Edit

Oh, and just because someone doesn't go to this site doesn't mean he/she can't call and get scores early. For instance, I didn't know about this site last summer and I was calling the crap out of the scores-by-phone number.

By Sandwraith (Sandwraith) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 10:29 pm: Edit

i didn't say that only people on this site call nor did i say that you couldn't call if you weren't on this board. i only said that these boards make up a decent selection of the number of people that do call.

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Saturday, June 26, 2004 - 12:56 am: Edit

The people on these boards do not make up a decent selection of the number of people that call. I am absolutely positive of this. I don't mean to come off like a jerk although I probably do. Anyway, enough discussing that... let's just hope they release the grades soon and that we all scored what we hope we did!

when i took the human geo late test (b/c it conflicted with calc) the proctor told me that the score report might not come to me until august since they take extra time to grade the late tests.

so if i call and get my scores will human geo be out with all the other scores as well???

has anyone experienced this in the past, did u get ur late test scores along with the others??

By Mattman (Mattman) on Saturday, June 26, 2004 - 04:05 pm: Edit

No, the AP number is different each year. They will accept your Social Security number if you used that on the form. If you didn't put down your SSN when you did your APs then you're just out of luck and will have to wait a few weeks.

The cost is $8 (not $15 as some reported) per call, which gives all of your AP scores for this year.

i'm really nervous...... i sure hope they release scores tomorrow. i know i'll be calling from work every 2 seconds.

By Hawaii2233 (Hawaii2233) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:58 am: Edit

releasing the scores two weeks early through the telephone for a fee seems like a good way for the college board to make even more money - in addition to 80 dollars a test it costs so that they can scan the test through the scantron and spend five minutes grading the written section. since most ap test takers are the type that are super concerned about their scores, it's only logical that most of them will call up early. the college board sickens me... though i suppose i will call once fifty new messages hailing all to post their 5's flags that the results have been available for five minutes.

By Mattman (Mattman) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 01:26 am: Edit

I'm happy that at my school, any scores of 3 or above get you a full refund. After taking 8 APs (4 in the past, 4 this year) and ending up getting all my money back, it just rocks. But still $80 x 4 is a lot cheaper than a semester of school.

By Feuler (Feuler) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 02:34 am: Edit

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as Hawaii2233. I love the idea of getting scores by phone or online- but it is so sick and twisted of CB to charge so much money for it. My principles prevailed last year and I waited for my score report, but I suspect I'll give in and call for my scores this time, especially once the frenzy begins.

By Lj2233 (Lj2233) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 06:07 am: Edit

Amen to that. Why would they need to charge so much for it when the tests are already SO expensive?? I can't believe that the paper for all the scantrons and everything costs that much. The fee for calling, if it's actually indeed necessary, should be covered by the money we pay for the tests. As a 2004 graduate, it doesn't affect me anymore, but I would have been willing to pay $81 per test to have the calling fee included.

Having said all that.... I'll be calling all day today.

By Jenesaispas (Jenesaispas) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 08:50 am: Edit

Damn capitalists. Can't they do something NICE for their customers, like letting them get the scores at the earliest possible time, without being so concerned with maximizing profit?

Well, at least it's only $8 for all the tests. I'm sure they could be making a lot more money per test. Even though fewer people would call, lots of crazy ones like you and me would probably call anyways.

By Hawaii2233 (Hawaii2233) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 09:24 am: Edit

$8 per test? My principles would never allow me to do that... or my wallet.

By Elizabeth22 (Elizabeth22) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 10:59 am: Edit

Just called- they're not up yet.

By Feuler (Feuler) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:04 pm: Edit

$8 per call, not per test, I think... but still. CB is officially nonprofit, right? Does that mean their financial stuff is public information? I'd be really curious as to where all the money we give them goes.

By Jenesaispas (Jenesaispas) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:11 pm: Edit

Yeah, it is $8 per call. Hawaii2233 was responding to my statement that they could probably make a lot more money by charging per test.

I bet these field houses for grading the tests aren't actually located in Texas or wherever... but really in the Cayman Islands, those bastards.

By Feuler (Feuler) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:28 pm: Edit

Oh, haha, whoops. Right above it too. Way to read the context...

By Hawaii2233 (Hawaii2233) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:35 pm: Edit

I can't believe that the CB is non-profit - there is no possible way that they are not making substantial profits on every test they administer. For the SAT I, they create what, three different tests with a few hundred questions and give them to a million test takers at something like forty dollar each? It's ridiculous - I have no idea why the government can't be in charge of these tests - it's pretty discriminatory for poorer people in states where the tests are not subsidised.

By Jenesaispas (Jenesaispas) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:39 pm: Edit

Well, theoretically, it's possible to get the fee for the tests "waived" but I'm not sure how this works in reality.

By Shelly147 (Shelly147) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 12:43 pm: Edit

i'm beginning to think that the scores will either come out tomorrow, or college board will just spite us all and put them out on thursday as scheduled

By Feuler (Feuler) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 01:36 pm: Edit

Socialized testing... interesting idea, but I suspect it couldn't work. It would be even more bureaucratic and inefficient than Collegeboard is.

I don't necessarily think CB is a bunch of people out to screw us out of our money, I just think it's terribly inefficient. My mom works for my school district and deals with CB to order tests and whatnot, and she is always frustrated because CB seems to be a maze of different people and offices, none of whom seem to know what the hell is going on. A lot of money can seep through the cracks in an organization like that.

There must be a more efficient way, but who knows what it is. I do think that government-run testing would be much more of a curse than a blessing, however.

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 01:51 pm: Edit

I would be very, very, very surprised if they waited until July 1 to put them out. But who knows.

By Ilcapo (Ilcapo) on Monday, June 28, 2004 - 02:10 pm: Edit

I just called the AP offices and told them I had my college orientation tomorrow and I needed to know what classses I would be exempt from. I explained how I knew that they usually put them out a few days early and asked if that would be happening again this year.

She looked through the system, found my file, and said 3 of my 4 tests were inputted so they were probably in the process of updating the system. She said they would definately be up before July 1st and to check the line again after 4.

So fear not friends...they must be on there way!

seriously, did anyone expect it to be up at the second it turned 4? remember, the people entering these scores in are only secretaries and are of the understanding that they need only be posted by the 1st of July. they aren't machines and aren't pecise. i assume the person who answered ilcapo probably didn't expect people to think that s/he meant that second exactly.

Hey guys -

What all do you need when you call? I'm away at a summer program, and I think I left my student packet at home.

I would think we could enter our SSN if we don't remember our AP number; last year I remember it requiring name, birthday, AP number or SSN number, and, of course, a valid credit card number and expiration date.

I just wanted to check. Thanks!

Not really necessary. A new conversation will probably be created as soon as official scores are out, which will definitely be in the next 36 hours.

lmao... I didn't even care about the scores at all, but after reading this thread my heart rate and blood pressure are all high and I'm angry at the College Board. I love you guys on CC :) you always make me laugh.

I know this doesn't help anyone, but I called 18003080013 instead of the (888) number and it was some random woman's home mortgage company. I hope all of you take a few moments out of your day to laugh at me :)yay for stupidity...

Yeah. Seriously. Who is still calling for their 2003 grades and why does she have to tell us that they're not available?

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 - 12:58 pm: Edit

Yes I hate her. My dad knows of my strife, and we continuously make fun of the woman. Let's talk about what we would do to her if we had her tied up and in our grasp.

Yeah, I'm beginning to doubt whether she read the grades correctly. (And by "she read," I mean "the CollegeBoard inputted...") The voice was too soft and quick... eek! Ahhhh. I also don't know if I was listening correctly. *Panic attack*

For birthday, you have to put in the month and day... so, 0713 would be for you.

Nah, I had Mrs. B. The second essay caught me half-off-guard, but apparently I did well enough anyway. Thanks :)

And NDB--come on. It's the same cost as a movie ticket... and there's a good chance you'll get a lot more emotion out of it to boot.

RBC: I think they just wanted the month and day. So '0713' would probably work.

First, they said my Environmental Science score was unavailable (I did late testing). Then, they didn't even list my Art test on the phone, so I called the help number. They didn't know why the test wasn't mentioned, but they gave me both scores.

I'm in disbelief right now -- I will be for the next month or so until I get a paper copy of my scores.

Congrats to everyone who's gotten their scores, and good luck to those who haven't yet!

Emika-
The help # is 1(888) 225-5427, but they close at 4:45 p.m. eastern time.

They can't really help anyways. They claim that they cannot get into the system because they are not allowed to view people's scores, so asking them whether they are up does no good.

The woman at the help line DID say that all scores should be available on July 1st, but that again, there are no guarantees.

Best of luck to all!

Got my scores---def not what I expected. My predictions are usually not this skewed!!!

Eng Lang - 4
(definitely expected a 5 - wrote awesome essays with a pretty good mc)

Calc AB - 5
(expected a 4 - mc was good, but essays were really bad - couldn't do at least 4 parts to the questions)

U.S. History - 5 (expected)

Drawing Portfolio - 3
Completely not what I expected, my teacher and classmates all said I had an awesome portfolio that was a solid 4. Is there anyway that the automated service is wrong??????!!!!!!!

Chemistry - 5
This is the SHOCKER!!! Expected a 3 hinging on a 4. Only had about 40-50% MC correct and I screwed up 1 complete essay (the Ksp one) The other essays were ok.

So does that 3 hurt my chances (even though its in art) I was thinking about sending them a copy of my concentration slides cuz I thought that it was awesome, but according to the CB, its "average".
Should I or not???

Overall I'm sorta disappointed.

World History-4 (pleasantly surprised since I was praying for a 3 on this one too-history wasn't exactly my favorite subject so I spent all my time studying for bio and calc, but this one also worked out in the end)

By Bullrider7788 (Bullrider7788) on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 - 01:55 am: Edit

Hey everyone-

A few responses to various questions posed throughout the most recent posts.

First, moonperl, if you did not bubble in your SSN on your multiple choice section of any AP exams this year, then you cannot use your SSN to retrieve your scores. If you did not give them the number, then how would they have it? Also, their databases compile from previous years, but not yet. That's why it takes 'em longer to mail it; cause they send you ALL of your scores. So, if you gave your SSN last year but not this year, they probably haven't matched them together yet.

To those of you whose scores were unavailable, I would encourage you to call the toll free line to get your remaining scores. You already paid the fee for the scores, and the operators can track that and (hopefully) give you the rest of your scores. Their computers are updated MUCH more frequently than the electronic phone system. Realistically, it is probably updated once a day, probably in the middle of the night (like right now lol), so that they don't lose any business.

In terms of mailing them, the College Board does NOT mail them overnite by any means. They are way too cheap to do that (remember, they ARE a nonprofit organization). They do not mail them on July 15, either. They get them out ASAP, but it usually takes until the middle to the end of the July to get them mailed, and plus, they come via first class mail (USPS), but they are the presorted pieces of mail (I am really unsure of how that affects the time it takes to deliver - on one hand, the presorted should make it easier to sort, but on the other hand, the postage is cheaper so it isn't a priority for the post office to deliver).

Last year, I think mine came at the beginning of the third week of July, and I didn't call in last year (haven't called in this year yet either).

Just a note about the College Board being nonprofit, cause I know a lot of peeps questioned it on this board while waiting for the 2004 scores to go up. On the bottom of all the AP exams, where the copyright notices are, the exams are all copyrighted to the Education Testing Service (ETS), NOT the College Board. ETS is the company that is responsible for developing, writing, and printing the exams, as well as overseeing the scoring process and the curve-setting process. So one may wonder where the College Board's role in all of this is? The College Board's role is ONLY test administration, and ETS develops them. When you call in, it does not say who the line belongs to (but it belongs to ETS). The same when you pay for the exams - I pay my school, and then they pay ETS (not the College Board), and I'm sure the rest of you pay some middle man before ETS gets paid, so the check that you write is not made out to ETS, but that's where the money goes. Therefore, the College Board is nonprofit because they are just an organization that is made up of an association of parents, teachers, and students. They also have a Board of Trustees which makes decisions for them and ETC, etc., but they really are nonprofit. BUT, think of ETS as the College Board's for-profit branch. They are out to make the big bucks, and that is exactly what they do. They are also one of the leaders in educational research, although this sometimes goes against some of their testing (especially the SAT), and does not justify trying to make so much money. ETS owns a 400 acre estate in NJ, with gold-plated tennis courts, etc.

For the actual cost of the APs though, they are costly to develop and write (consider development costs - all the different forms, questions, paying development committee members, etc.). The printing is costly too, because the paper is nicer than the cheap stuff that the SAT is printed on (plus the part II books, the MC answer sheets, etc.) Then, shipping costs, renting grading facilities (University of Nebraska, Miami Convention Center, etc.), paying graders, reporting grades, etc. Plus, each school/testing facility (on this year's fee, at least) receives an $8 rebate for administering each exam for administration costs (rooms, proctors, etc.) I know it sucks, but the rooms that I take the APs in at my school are rented from the school by the College Board, technically at least.

Its not $82, but its not 5 bucks either.

Hopefully this helps clear up some stuff.

Question...if you take an AP in junior year (say english and get a 3), and you take it again in your senior year (say you get a 4 or 5), does that count as having taken 2 AP tests for the AP with honors or distinction-type awards?
And what if you take AB Calc as a junior, and then BC Calc as a senior...does the AB subscore on the BC test count again?

APUSH-4 (Pretty happy with this one considering my feelings about the course and the fact that I hate history.)

How should one feel about a 3 on an AP test? I mean if you get a 3, you passed the test, and you know your stuff, you just don't know it THAT well. A 3 is a lame duck score for the more "elite" student because it is like you accomplished something, but you didn't because most elite schools (not to mention most schools in general) only accept a 4 or 5.

I got a 3 on my euro test (had a bad teacher) and a 4 on the comp gov one. Will this look bad to colleges? Should I withhold my 3 when sending this out to them? I received A's the whole year in all of these classes, so it's a little odd that I got these scores. Also, I'm a sophomore (or I was from 2003-2004) if that makes a difference. I am applying to schools like UCB, UCLA, Pepperdine, and Stanford. I don't want my weak AP scores to hurt my chances at getting accepted at any of these schools. Any advice?

I'm still curious as to whether getting 2 5's on two half-year courses is equivalent to getting one 5 on a full-year, for AP Scholarship status. That 'or the equivalent' is much too ambiguous...

By Seahorsekid (Seahorsekid) on Thursday, July 01, 2004 - 10:06 am: Edit

i got out of most of mine. Our school not only has us pay for ours but also requires that we take them or else receive a withdraw fail at the end of the year from the class! So I went to the guidance department and told them my case; I had to take four AP exams (the most anyone took at our school) and I had to take one late because of the All-State Music Festival (which of course always falls on the exam week and no one has done anything about it). My total fee was supposed to be over 360 bucks, but my counselor reduced the fee to 50 dollars per test and waived the late fee for a total fee of 200 bucks. It made me feel better :).

And while I'm posting I might as well ask another question. I really want to be a National AP scholar (this year so far I have a 5 and two 4's... waiting for my APUSH score, which will be at least a 3), but next year I'm only taking the spanish language, english, and calculus BC exams. Is there another exam that I can self-study for (I'm self-studying calc) that people found they did well on by self studying? I think that made sense...

By Augiemarch (Augiemarch) on Friday, July 02, 2004 - 01:14 am: Edit

ok whoever asked why its possible for there to be more with distinction than merely honor it is simply because in that year more students reached both the honor threshold and the distinction threshold. logically all students who are scholars with distinction also qualify for scholar with honor, but receive only the higher award. whoever wanted to know about exams to self study so that they can earn the national ap scholar award, i received that award and i took 16 ap tests overall. most of the tests i took a class for, but interestingly all the exams i self studied for i earned fives, which was not the case for all the tests that i had a class for. make sure you buy a review book trust me. now for the advice, i self studied for macro and comparative as well as world history and psychology. psychology is easy. read a review book you will be fine. do not take macro unless you have a solid background in econ. you will not earn a high score and you will kill your chances at national since presumably you are taking only seven full year courses based upon your post. take comparative if you are fairly knowledgable about current affairs, specifically and obviously international affairs. there is not much "academic" knowledge necessary to earn a high score. read twenty or so economists closely and you will do fine. for world history I dont have much advice, history is interesting to me and consequently over the years i have read a great deal about a variety of subjects relating to history thus i probably have a different knowledge base. if you are reasonably intelligent as your previous ap scores suggest i would say read a quality review book and at least one college level textbook and you should be fine.

I'm not sure how these half-year AP's work, do I get and sort of scholar there?

Yea, Delacroix, I thought I got a 4 in English Lit-sooo hard for me- and I managed a 5.

Starbucks: congrats! I took English LIt and the second essay was truly weird (I think it was Henry James passage). Did you feel that way as well? I hope I get a 5, but one never knows.
Tvh2k: great job! I thought the BC calc was devastating (the free response was hideous)...did you feel that way? I'm hoping for a four. sigh

I couldn't take it anymore; I called... =P

Chemistry: 5
European History: 4

I'm very happy. If you want to read my experience with these two classes, here they are:

Chemistry: I felt really confident going into this test and even more confident going out. For the first 20 weeks of the school year I had a sub-par book along with an unqualified teacher (he knew the subject, but had no idea of how to teach). After the first semester was over, I abruptly switched into the only other Chemistry class at our school with a teacher who knew how to keep a schedule and how to teach what we needed to know. In addition to this, the class took it upon themselves to buy new textbooks ("Chemistry: 6th ed." by Zumdahl), which helped incredibly.

European History: Almost everyone I know takes this class their Sophomore year. The teacher has a good sense of humor, but poor concept of a schedule. We took far too long on the pre-Napoleon era and went through 1815 - Present in only the last month or so of the class. In addition, we had no timed-preperation for DBQ's, essays or multiple choice. I'm very content with a 4 here...

By Bullrider7788 (Bullrider7788) on Sunday, July 04, 2004 - 09:35 pm: Edit

I was also REALLY happy to get a 4 in Comp Sci A, becuase my teacher LITERALLY DID NOT TEACH A THING! Since the class was mostly seniors, he told us just to read or go on the internet. I had to study the material on my own, plus my friend helped me A LOT. I didn't take AB because I would not of have gotten higher than a 2.

Kenenisa -
How'd you prepare for Virgil (Please, Please help me! I am desperate)! (PS Congrats on the 5).

Also, can somebody post when they get their scores by mail and give me a reasonable estimate of when they should arrive?

If I have only my social security number (and not my AP number), is that information sufficient enough to receive my grades via phone?

By Frs (Frs) on Monday, July 05, 2004 - 03:21 am: Edit

Yes, your social security number will suffice. When you registered for the AP test did you give them your SSN? 'Cause if you didn't, that might change things.

By Welshie (Welshie) on Monday, July 05, 2004 - 03:25 am: Edit

I'm not sure... I probably didn't (I don't think I had it memorized until recently). Thanks for the heads up.

Well I managed to find my AP booklet and got my scores. I'm both happy and disappointed. Here's how it looks:
Stats - 4 (really thought I had the 5).
Calc AB - 4 (as I expected, but I hoped for a 5).
English Lit - 3 (Hoped for a 4, but am content passing).
Physics B - 4 (Holy cow, I thought I got a 2. I guessed like a bad mother).
US Gov - 4 (As I predicted).
Macroecon - 4 (really thought I had the 5 as well).

These classes, coupled with my previous European History and US History give me a nice 40 credit hour cushion when I enter BYU.

By Rowan (Rowan) on Monday, July 05, 2004 - 01:08 pm: Edit

Called.

Calc AB - no score. had to take test late, so i figure that's why.
Bio - 4 (WTF? That was surprising. Thought I'd be lucky to get a 3.)
Lit - 4 (Le sigh. Thought I did better. I wonder how close I was to a 5...)
Psych - 3 (Boo-ya! Self-studied in three days before the test using only the Barron's guide.)

Not too bad, not so great. Good enough to get me AP Scholar with Honors with my other scores, and possibly AP Scholar with Disctinction if I managed a 4 on Calc AB (which would kill me, because I'm positive I got a 1).

When in the world do the scores come in the mail? I'm waiting but its PAINFUL!

By Al0 (Al0) on Monday, July 05, 2004 - 08:56 pm: Edit

Gave in and called:

Chem: 5
Calc BC: 5
Calc AB Sub-Score: 5
English Lang and Comp: 5
U.S. History: 5
Latin Virgil: 5
Comp Sci A: 5

I'm weak of will, defrauded by the ETS of $8, but happy nonetheless.

im so tired of all this school stuff and math, i really need to take a break, i'm exhausted. you guys should think about that too. unfortunatly my school has the privelege of giving the students summer assignments for aps, ahhhhhh! here we come senior year.

By Aamyalnudraa (Aamyalnudraa) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 10:01 am: Edit

Anyone know when the college we had our grades sent will actually receive our grades? My college needs them by the 15th, and I'm not sure if I have to spend the $23 to get it expedited... (I think expedited shipping is for colleges not already designated, or at least that's what I get from the webpage.)

By Kenenisa (Kenenisa) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 10:58 am: Edit

Al0, looks like you didn't need any tips :) Thanks for your congrats, and congrats to you, too. Certainly some impressive scores! To answer your question, in the days leading up to the test I started to go through the entire translation again, but I realized I didn't have time, so instead I just searched through the entire thing (do you have the Pharr (sp) edition, with the vocab for each page at the bottom? it's KEY) and I highlighted every word I didn't know and attempted to memorize them all. I had no idea how the strategy would work, I just knew that vocab was my weak point so I figured I should work on it, and it helped a LOT. Words came up left and right in both the MC and the translations that I'd learned in the preceding days. Throughout the year to study for my teacher's tests I would have my dad read out an English translation while I followed along with the Latin (my dad is very generous), and that saved so much time because I didn't have to keep switching back and forth between the English and Latin, losing my place all the time etc. Also my teacher was incredible, and I had had a great foundation of grammar throughout the preceding two years (freshman year stunk though). Congrats again

if we took the makeup tests, when do scores come out? anybody know?

By Kingb123 (Kingb123) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 04:42 pm: Edit

I took mine the regular day (international though) and they're still not up. This is bs

By Al0 (Al0) on Tuesday, July 06, 2004 - 09:19 pm: Edit

Yeah, since I got owned on Latin Lit Sophomore year I was amazed about the Virgil score (I didn't remember some parts of the translation, but I must have got through them okay after all). My Latin teacher knows the subject ridiculously well (like you ask him about any particular controversial ablatives and he will be able to tell you what five or so different experts have to say about it and then give his own commentary!), but gets lost in his admiration for Virgil and doesn't teach toward AP.

By Rowan (Rowan) on Thursday, July 08, 2004 - 02:04 am: Edit

I'm interested in an answer to Lj2233's question as well.

By The007expert (The007expert) on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 01:14 am: Edit

Lj2233, I think the College Board says that all scores should be out by August 15. It said to call them by that date if you have not received all scores. Can someone verify that?

bio-4

It's good enough for JHU and it's certainly good enough for me. :) Very surprised, seeing that I didn't pay attention in class, probably look less than one page of notes combined for the whole year (not kidding on this one), and my teacher was even worried about me not doing well... WOOT.

Congrats to all of you with the billion 5's. I'm just happy I got out of two semesters of general bio.

By Just_Forget_Me (Just_Forget_Me) on Friday, July 16, 2004 - 06:49 pm: Edit

Just got mine today in the mail.

Lang/Comp - 5 (what I'd predicted. I'm good at the MC, and I was "on" for the essays. I think I'm going to order them.)
Euro - 5 (I was thinking I'd get a 3 or 4. Felt good going into the test, but MC had all sorts of weird questions, and the essays made me feel sick.)

So I'm a little surprised, and very happy. Going to go email my teachers + thank them.
