I got 680 on physics and 730 on us history.. Well, I was very very disappointed but didn't consider these scores as "horrible" scores. But according to this board these scores seem like terrible and horrible. Am I supposed to retake these tests?

they are very good. just look at your percentile. You did better than all those people who did worse than you. :)

that's kinda bad considering 7% of kids taking the test get 800's for physics

I would only retake the physics if you want to go to an extremely selective school like Harvard, and you actually plan on majoring in it. Those are still impressive scores, considering any SAT score of 500 is considered average.

What scores are acceptable for writing in a top ten school? I got 800s on math IIC and physics, and my highest for writing is a 690 (I scored lower the second time I took it). I have a 1500 for my one and only time taking the SATs, so I think if I want to apply early I shouldn't take the SATs again and I should take a writing, right?

I am really in the dark about this sort of stuff, so any help would be appreciated.

It all depends on which school, and what you'll be studying/majoring in.

Stonedpanda, if you're planning to major in something math/physics related, then a 690 writing is more than fine for a top ten school.

Yeah. For sure I'm going to major in Mathematics or Theoretical Physics (if I decide to change later, then it doesn't really matter, right? Even though it's almost 100% likely that I won't change it to something that's not math, science or economics, it only matters what I write on the application, correct?) Sorry for the wordiness of that last sentence, but you guys get the idea =p

Anyway, the first time I took it I scored a 690 and the second time I took it I scored a 640 because I was feeling extremely sick (I could hardly concentrate). Excuses aside, that doesn't matter, right? I will take it again and score higher though.
