By Adidasty (Adidasty) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 06:20 pm: Edit

I'd like to see the fortes of everyone here, because I've been thinking, we have so many talented people on CC, if we all got together and like challenged some really intelligent people in different subject areas, I think we'd win. Let's say we competed in every single academic/artistic subject there was out there, please post and say what you're best at and why?

Ill start: I've got Biology. It's my thing. I just took the SAT II Bio M and it's looking like an 800. I've also given a few lectures to my AP Biology class because our teacher sucked.

By Physicskid123 (Physicskid123) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 06:41 pm: Edit

My forte is physics. I got an 800 on the SAT II exam, I think maybe missed 3 or 4. I am expecting a 5 on physics C Mechanics. I taught my class a few times, and showed the teacher how to do many of the problems.

By Altf4 (Altf4) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 07:06 pm: Edit

kk, i'll take the higher math "forte", particular algebra just cause i got above a 100% last year in my algebra 2 class and i'm comfortable with the material.

i can also do pre calc and some calc, but i bet some other person here is better than me

By Crazylicious (Crazylicious) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 07:10 pm: Edit

english and history.

i am just very interested in both, always have been in honors/AP courses too.

in addition, i'm a bookworm, go me!

Biology and Chemistry ;)

By Mhawk177 (Mhawk177) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 07:36 pm: Edit

Im rather good in math with a 780 on the SAT I math. I think I was capable of an 800, but I went in there cold because my school only preps us for the ACT. Most kids at my school have never heard of the SAT, or just dont know what it means. Writing is also a forte of mine.

By Redbarn (Redbarn) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 07:37 pm: Edit

Writing. I am the grammar king. I'm waiting on my Writing score from June; I'll be extremely surprised if it's not an 800.

chem. 800 on SATII and Ill be surprised if i didnt get a 5 on the AP.

I am very strong in Biology, Chemistry, Math, World History, and English.

However - I am absolutely horrible at foreign languages, and just thinking about United States history makes me want to cry. go figure :/

By Tlaktan (Tlaktan) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 07:56 pm: Edit

World History and United States History. Government, if there was one.

By Royalchk (Royalchk) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 08:03 pm: Edit

Well, I've done some original work in math, and rocked a few AP 5s here and there.

By Rbc13 (Rbc13) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 08:10 pm: Edit

I would say Mathematics is my best area. I have earned at least 100 in every class since 7th grade. I learned quadratic equations(13), probability(14), and trigonometry(15) in 8th grade from the end of my ALG I book, without any help at all. I even did every problem in CH 13-15 just about, and spent 16 days of about 3-4 hours each doing 800 problems and learning lessons by myself in April of 8th grade. Also I did the H/W for Ch. 7-12 in ALG II(10th grade) in one month(december), so I finished the book while everybody wasn't even half way through. I earned at least 100 on every quiz/exam that semester consequently, and probably could have taught the class a whole lot better than my teacher, but I just studied other subjects, and reread chapters. If you haven't guessed already, I plan to major in mathematics or engineering.

By Physicskid123 (Physicskid123) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 08:13 pm: Edit

I am good at foreign languages too, speak indonesian fluently. Never got below an A+ in spanish (3 years). I also speak french rather well from frequent traveling to Quebec. Now I am learning Hindi.
I am also good at math. I am a sophomore with an 80 psat math. I am the only perfect score in my school for math. I skipped alg 2, and self-studied AP calc ab this year, while in pre-calc class. I am confident I got a 5. I do math league as well.

physics - 800, 5, 5,5 olympiad semi finalist.

By Number9 (Number9) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 08:53 pm: Edit

History and English.

Only US History right now, but I'll add Europe to my repretoire by the end of the year.

I also like foreign languages, but I'm not that far on any of them yet...

Basket weaving and baton twirling (Honors) :)

By Crypto86 (Crypto86) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 09:04 pm: Edit

My big thing is science - specifically chemistry. I ended up with an "H" (6.0 GPA - yeah, grade inflation...) for honors chemistry last year for the full year. I received a 700 chem (not great, but solid) and I performed well last year in NJ Science League Chem I (avg. score of 80 - 44th in state) I plan on taking AP chem and Molecular bio (I'll probably self-study the rest for the AP test) - I also got a 710 BioM in 9th grade, which is pretty good going up against AP bio seniors. Hopefully I'll get into Columbia SHP for next year, which would really solidify my science achievements. Also, tonight I received my school's RPI Medal award, which is really cool!

By Royalchk (Royalchk) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 09:26 pm: Edit

I taught myself calculus with the help of a really excellent book in 8th grade. I cannot, alas, weave baskets or much else for that matter.

CHEMISTRY, biology, and SAT math ;P

By Gameguy56 (Gameguy56) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 09:33 pm: Edit

umm, I absolutely LOVE history, 750 on US SAT II, most likely 5 on AP exam, but there are MUCH better people here, so I'll just shuffle along.

I did get an 800IIC, but that's becasue I learn math well, not becasue I am particularly good at it. (710M SAT I)

By Rippledance (Rippledance) on Tuesday, June 08, 2004 - 10:19 pm: Edit

Biology, Literature. Although no one can really be "good" at Literature, in a manner of speaking. I love it, though. =) Took both SAT IIs this June, am waiting on my results.

I'm a humanities guy: literature, philosophy, social sciences, politics, history etc. I'm pretty good in all of those, but no awards/grades to back it up. Yet.

Chemistry right now it seems. I took the regular course in high school, but self studied the AP, and sat 2, but i guess it all depends on wat i get, looking for 800

Mine are Micro/Macro-Economics. I've maintained a solid A/A+ the entire semester without studying at all. I'm just really good with applying Economic theory and analyzing events around the world through the eyes of an Economist.

Then there is Math. I love math, I live for it. I do it for recreation. I have a solid A in math as well. Mathematics is just plain beautiful. It saddens me how many people just don't realize their inherent mathematical ability, and can't see the aesthete of mathematics.

I'm planning to major in Economics and Math in university.

By the way, what is it that you plan to do after gathering all this talent? I'd like to be a part of it, if you don't mind.

"I'm planning to major in Economics and Math in university."
As am I Htown. If I dont get into a U-grad B-school then I will major in Econ and Mathematics.
What you say about math is so true. I feel that it is art, and the most beautiful at that.

By Feuler (Feuler) on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 - 02:12 am: Edit

Math, without question. I have this knack for seeing just about anything in the world as it relates to math, and dealing with any challenge (from science to history to athletics) in similar style to a math problem. Plus I have a strong knack for understanding math as opposed to knowing it, and finding ways in which it is meaningful.

Of course, if you want some numbers to back up my claim, I've got those too: 800 SAT M and Math IIC, 140.5 on AMC 12, 13 on AIME, and 15 on USAMO, which got me into MOSP (last year... I had some bad luck this year), and I was also recently on the first place team in ARML division B (~14th place overall). I also have recieved perfect grades in several EPGY math classes.

But honestly, the numbers are unimportant. What matters is that I have a passion for this topic, and have found ways to make use of this talent.

wow... for me. nothing. i thought i was pretty good at math since i taught my whole class some stuff when our teacher couldnt explain and all.. but after seeing all this.. no... i've got no forte... despair........ i'll just go and have my yummy blueberry cream pie!

By Conker (Conker) on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 - 10:46 am: Edit

My talents are in music. What's strange is that I love everything music EXCEPT performance. I love theory, history, and composition. I'm only a mediocre performer though. Well, not mediocre in the sense that "Heart and Soul" constitutes my entire repetoire, but I am average in the sense that most Chopin and Lizst is beyond me.

I know virtually everything about music history; I've had a passion for this since I was in elementary school, and I know everything from Daniel Auber to Zigeunerweisen. Theory: I studied AP Music Theory this year, and I loved it (although the material was elementary, I think I screwed up on the exam!). As for composing, I've penned a few pretty pieces, although I really haven't had the time to do anything serious.

I'm good in math. No 800's or calc yet, but next year I will successfully max out my schools curriculum, so I think I'm good at it.

And art, I love to draw. My teachers are mad at me for sacrificing their studio classes to take APs next year. I'm mad at myself for this also...

Nothing. I'm dead serious. 1000 SAT (terrible, I know AND I studied), mediorce grades, nothing outstanding at sports or other. I guess I'm destined to be a bum.

I'm good at listening to rap music. My 1270 SAT won't do much on this board.

By Paulhomework (Paulhomework) on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 - 07:36 pm: Edit

my "talents" are rather very diverse...

I'm really good in World History (780 SAT II, 5 AP) and i enjoy reading about it.

On the other hand, I am really good in math and always have an A+ (welll expect bc calc in which i got a A). In addition to an 800 in IIC / 780 in SAT I, I'm also expecting a 5 on the AP test. However, i don't like math AT ALL. I'm good at it, but i really hate some of the calculus stuff, like series and reimann sums.

I love phyiscs; howevever i'm not that good. I do have an A+, and will be taking Phyiscs 2 c, but i think i messed up my SAT II (i expected an 800 but will most probably get a 700).

It's strange. I'm very good in history, but I don't love it. I'm excellent in math, but hate doing it. I love Physics, but I'm only decent in it.

By Athlonmj (Athlonmj) on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 - 07:39 pm: Edit

I'm pretty good at Lunch. 5 on AP test. 800 on SAT II Lunch IC. 790 on Lunch IIC... I missed a dumb question on lunchroom ettiquette.

By Haithman (Haithman) on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 - 08:04 pm: Edit

hmmm you hate math and yet you love physics? hmmm interesting...

By Paulhomework (Paulhomework) on Wednesday, June 09, 2004 - 10:35 pm: Edit

lol at Athlonmj! i really suck at lunch

to Haithman:

I should've been more specific. I like physics so much because I can put my mathematical knowledge into practical uses. For example, an assignment in the Calculus class involves solving a list of random integrals. I don't like that. But in physics, you can actually put into some practical use, and apply to some real world situations. That's why I like physics. BTW, i only hate series, not the rest of math.

I need to forward this post to Ms. Lowrance, Ty! J/k. Don't post so obviously, kid. You never know what a little Google can do, and it may just wreck your letter of rec.!

Foreign language (especially Spanish and French) without a doubt. It was pretty cool when AP Spanish kids were coming to me for help this year (I was a third-year after having skipped second).

Writing, because I've become a grammar/style/rhetoric nazi ever since I started learning foreign languages and since I took AP Language last year. Can't wait to take the SATII Writing and Spanish exams.
