i got 4 wrong on the march one and got a 770 -- it usually fluctuates between 750 and 800--most of the time its a high 700 to 800

I just looked through my 10 Real SATs book, and it seems like you can usually get about 2 - 4 wrong and still get an 800.

is that 2-4 wrong whole test, or for a section?

For the whole verbal portion of the test.
For the math portion it's always much tougher. Generally you need to ace it or get a maximum of 1 wrong to get an 800.
