Im seriously going nuts over this- I can't even finish Barrons practice tests!! I always run out of time, miss quite a few. Ive heard Barrons is harder than the real test but is it THAT much harder?! Im thinking about seriously throwing the book out the window, its so frustrating! I know the concepts but their problems (to me) are insanely difficult!

I dont have much time, I have writing & us history to study for, no motivation whatsoever (its summer!), and a dislocated shoulder. So any ideas- stick with it or give up and take the test next oct?? Thanks!

By Qwert271 (Qwert271) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 12:31 pm: Edit

Don't worry about it. I did the Barrons, routinely got 10-15 wrong and finished late. Did the Princeton Review, got about 8 wrong per test. Took the real thing and scored an 800. In my view, Barrons and even PR are very unrealistic. Don't waste time on memorizing formulas (unless you dont know pythagorean, basic trig ones), they weren't asked on the one I took.

By Ecnerwalc (Ecnerwalc) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 01:09 pm: Edit

What about Kaplan? Did anyone miss like 8 wrong on Kaplan's?

By Jrpar (Jrpar) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 01:28 pm: Edit

Qwert, what would you think of a Barrons practice score of 33 finished, 7 wrong? Do you know what score that roughly equates to? Jens, my son is tearing his hair out over the IIC too. He's seriously considering waiting until October to take the test.

By Qwert271 (Qwert271) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 01:52 pm: Edit

A raw score of about 24 (33 finished, 7 wrong, 2 pts off) should get you in the low 700's or high 600's. Jrpar: unless he hasn't taken trig, alg 2, or precalc, waiting isn't going to accomplish much. Especially since if he takes it now and isn't pleased with his results he can take in again in october.

By Jens (Jens) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 02:39 pm: Edit

The thing is I have taken alg 2 & precalc and done well, but I do horrible on the Barrons practice tests!! Im really stressing out wondering if I should spend my remaining time on tackling the math practice tests or study history/writing instead.

By Qwert271 (Qwert271) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 02:53 pm: Edit

I wouldn't focus in math. It won't benefit you as much as the time spent on history.

barron's is stupid as hell..it is so much deeper than math 2c

I got low 600s on the barron tests...i got 800 on the real subject tests wit 2 wrong and one omit

By Jrpar (Jrpar) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 03:55 pm: Edit

He's taking pre-calc now; always done well in math, did well on math SAT I, but this IIC is driving him crazy.

I'm been searching the entire internet for a IIC conversion chart, and I came across this board. If anyone has the time...what can I expect with on the real IIC if I got a 29 raw score (30 correct, 4 wrong, 16 omit {im gonna study to take care of the massive omitting}) on a Barrons test? Thanks.

By Jens (Jens) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 04:04 pm: Edit

I did a search on Barrons IIC on this board from previous posts and MANY said they had around raw score of 30-35s on Barrons practice test and scored an 750+ (many 800s) on the real thing.
That has somewhat comforted me but I am still quite freaked out.
Jrpar- seems like your son and I are in the same situation. Ive decided to tough it out, study my other subjects and see what happens next sat.
Ack!

By Jens (Jens) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 04:05 pm: Edit

Sns22022- Go to Sparknotes Math IIC Book online (free, but u need an account) and it has a conversion chart.
Hopefully Barrons is much harder like everyone has been saying!

By Sns22022 (Sns22022) on Saturday, May 29, 2004 - 04:55 pm: Edit

lol...I'm still freaked out too. This one VERY smart girl in my calc class said it was so hard and wouldn't tell me what she got, but she said she didn't prep at all. Thanks for the site Jen:) I'm assuming it will be much easier than barrons seeing that i got a 23 on a practice ACT and a 32 on the real thing!

barrons overpreps you. I took a test from the Real Sats book today and it was a waste of time preparing from Barrons because I could have answered most of those questions BEFORE i started preparing... doh...i scored a 780 on the Real Sat book as opposed to a 33/34 raw score in Barrons.

By Sns22022 (Sns22022) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 11:47 am: Edit

I feel alot better going into the test when I use barrons. I don't have alot of confidence when I go into tests without studying, so when I do I find I do much better. I personally love Barrons.

By Impatheticiknow (Impatheticiknow) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 02:25 pm: Edit

Barrons seems to put too much emphasis on series, matrices, polars, parametrics, and other topics that are rarely covered on the test.

By Sns22022 (Sns22022) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 05:53 pm: Edit

Really? I'll be sure to not put to much emphasis on those topics.

By Bcrichsolo (Bcrichsolo) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 07:20 pm: Edit

I just scored 35 on barrons 1st diag test...what does this equate to?

For those who think Barrons is impossible (like me!) are you guys still going to study from it or use another book?
I think I might get the Real SAT II book now since I see no point in bombing another practice test and feeling really really discouraged.

By Zantedeschia (Zantedeschia) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 08:34 pm: Edit

I'm almost done with Barrons...one more practice test and I've been bombing the tests (30ish raw score)...but I took three tests from other books (Sparknotes, Princeton and Kaplan) and got 770, 790, 770 respectively. So, don't get too down because of Barrons!

By Justice (Justice) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 09:06 pm: Edit

I got low 700s on Barron's last June and I too freaked out. The real one is amazingly easy. I had almost half an hour left. Just be efficient is all I can say. I saw a few that I didn't know how to do and I immediately plugged in and got the right answer in 10s.

By Thepiskickass (Thepiskickass) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 09:07 pm: Edit

Okay, so what's with the emphasis on vectors and logic in Sparknotes? Is that an accurate reflection of the real thing? Because that's not what's in 22 Real SAT IIs! 730, 800, 740, 770 on the Spark test I've taken so far, in that order...

By Thepiskickass (Thepiskickass) on Monday, May 31, 2004 - 09:26 pm: Edit

bump

By Gxing (Gxing) on Friday, June 25, 2004 - 02:56 pm: Edit

what do i need in barron's to get an 800 on the real thing??
