These are my scores as they stand now:

Grade 9 - 590-V 640-M
Grade 10 January - 660-V 740-M
Grade 10 June - 760-V 730-M

Best composite = 1500 combined

Should I take it again, now that I am in the 11th grade? I am almost positive that I can get an 800 in math if I take it again. I got a 790 on the SAT II (2c). But, I seriously doubt that I could get another 760 in verbal. Would taking it again be detrimental or benificial? I am looking at Harvard as a reach, and would realistically like to goto Duke or Dartmouth, going to visit soon to decide which to apply early to. Do colleges look at the grades when taken?

Two more questions- :)

Is it ok to take an SAT II twice. I was sorta dumb and went into the Chemistry SAT II without studying and got a 710. I know if I study it will go well above 750.

and... What is considered a good SAT II Writing score? . Also, what is a good essay score. I got a 730 with a score of a 10 on the essay. I am not taking this again most likely though

Thanks a whole lot. College is confusing

You need to take it again! To my knowledge colleges wont accept your sophomore SAT scores no matter how high or low they are. They only take scores from your Junior/Senior Year!

Is acct right? My guidance counselor told me that all SAT scores on your record are fair game if they're going to take the highest subscores. After all, why else would they show up on your permanent record if they weren't going to count. Can anyone give me confirmation on this?

Acct you are definitely wrong - all of your SAT scores are on the transcript. You don't have to take it again if you don't want to. If you think a difference of 60 points is going to help ou that much - go ahead. But you have a very good chance of going down in one. Colleges don't look so favorably if you have taken the SAt more than three times but if you do better - it won't make any difference. Hope that helps. Prob not...

take it again. colleges will NOT take in account how many times you take it. in fact, some secretary inputs yours scores into your folder for adcoms to read. the adcoms only see the highest scores.

by the way, don't cream your pants over a 1500. it's a good score but not that impressive

By dood on Friday, February 21, 2003 - 05:50 pm: Edit

And a 1600 is? Oh boy, I know 3 more vocab words than the 1500 person... etc. Frankly, no SAT score is really that impressive anymore...

Uh, yeah dumbass, a 1600 is much more impressive than a 1500. It's sad but true.. SATs measure knowledge, test-taking skills, and memory. They don't measure ability or intelligence. But to say that adcoms (at selective schools) don't notice a difference between a 1500 and a 1600 is moronic.

"SATs measure knowledge, test-taking skills, and memory. They don't measure ability or intelligence. "

Uh, how can it measure knowledge but not intelligence?

By let the truth be known on Friday, February 21, 2003 - 07:00 pm: Edit

Uh, because anyone with an IQ over 75 can gain knowledge, or facts about whatever. Anyone can memorize facts.

Sorry about the misspelled title. Monday I'm going to talk to my guidance counselor. But, he probably won't be much help because nobody does well on the SAT's at my school, and nobody has ever gone to an ivy league school in 25 years.

By GIMP on Friday, February 21, 2003 - 09:42 pm: Edit

Sorry for sorta spamming. But, will they give me any type of extra consideration for taking these in tenth grade?

By jhn on Friday, February 21, 2003 - 09:53 pm: Edit

ugh, you should definitely take it again.

why did you take it so early anyway? you clearly hurt yourself, at least on the math section, because you probably weren't that strong in some of the concepts in 9th/10th grade.

take it again, get the 800 on math, and you're set. colleges will understand.

take it early, take it often

Check out the "When's the best time to take the SAT?" thread. Others also were informed if you take it anytime other then Junior/Senior years colleges won't take it.

In my school I was told if you take it sophomore year or earlier, its simply practice and you "must" retake in Junior year.

By answer on Saturday, February 22, 2003 - 12:59 am: Edit

I was told that anything after 9th counts and 9th is just for practice.

I was told that 9th grade scores dispappear from the score report by senior year. Can anybody confirm this?

Well, at least I have gotten a good start

By Blahdefrickenda (Blahdefrickenda) on Friday, February 28, 2003 - 12:06 am: Edit

it's not the fact that memorization and knowledge are accessable to everyone, it's the fact that some people actually study more than others for the test. and you know, if you don't study for tests, then you're practically screwed.
