can somebody explain to me what a match pair experiment is i am reading it and i am still sort of confuse by it

By Jakester (Jakester) on Monday, May 03, 2004 - 09:44 pm: Edit

A matched pair is a test you perform when you have two sample data on the same variable (like, for instance, the weight of a mouse before and after a new diet). In this experiment, rather than compare the mean weight of all mice before to the mean weight of all mice after, you should match each mouse with its weight before and after, subtract the two, and check if their difference is not equal to zero. This arises because in a matched pairs scenario the two variables are not independent.

My one suggestion before the test tomorrow- know the assumptions for each test.

whaaaaat is an assumption?

By Jakester (Jakester) on Monday, May 03, 2004 - 09:53 pm: Edit

You should never assume.... when you do you make a... uh... donkey out of u and me ;)

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Monday, May 03, 2004 - 10:06 pm: Edit

what are the assumptions? can someone list some of them?

By Simplistic44 (Simplistic44) on Monday, May 03, 2004 - 10:11 pm: Edit

Those common assumptions for the tests-

SRS
np > 10 (verify)
n(1-p) > 10 (verify)
Pop 10x sample size
Normally distributed with no outliers / skewness
etc.
