Discus: SAT/ACT Tests and Test Preparation: May 2004 Archive: Quick bio question
By Maverick27 (Maverick27) on Monday, May 03, 2004 - 08:48 pm: Edit

just a quicky:
(its not off an ap test or anything)

-in enzyme regulation by allosteric interaction, the inhibitor often works on the FIRST enzyme of the series (this would keep the cell from spending unnecessary enery and materials)

-in regulation by competitive inhibition, it often works on the LAST. (substances with similar structures as the intended substrate compete with the substrate for the active site on the enzyme. its easily reversible, too lazy to write how but its kinda obvious.)

the Question asks WHY is there this difference between where the inhibition takes place. What am i missing in my reasoning thats keeping me from getting the answer?
