Hi guys,

For the AP US History test coming up, I can do very well on the multiple choice part but im having alot of trouble with the free response. It seems like i either dont know whats happening (The social, economic change after the Reconstruction, etc,) or I dont know how to put it into words.

What should I do to prepare for May 7th? Thanks

Well what are your essay scores on inclass free responses? If you are getting 70+ on MC you can average 5s for all your essays and still get a 5 no problem.

I would focus on a solid thesis. Readers only get a few minutes and after reading 500+ essays they can tell whose will be good just on thesis alone. Make your thesis detailed. IE - I took a practice DBQ on Jackson as a figure of the "Age of Jackson" (support or refute) and my thesis had that Jackson as a common man president extended democracy, destroyed "wealthy institutions", and showed unwavering power, shown in the Spoils System, Veto of the Recharter of the National Bank, and forced removal Native Americans east of the Mississippi River, thus making Jackson a representative figure of the 1820s and 1830s.

See how much detail that has - from that the readers will know you know your stuff.
