Every time someone mentions that they got a 1600 on the SAT, or they improved their score by 100 points, you salivate and ask how they did it. Here's what I have to say:

Be happy with what you have! Plenty of colleges reject 1600s, I don't get why you think it's even that important. I mean, you improved your score by what like 500 points? Give it a rest! That's impressive all on it's own! Remember only about 580 something people managed a 1600, and there are tons tons tons tons tons tons tons more who get into top colleges! A 1600 isn't going to make or break you. Do you know how happy I would be with a 1530? Very, I mean that's 98-99 percentile. Stop worrying, live a little. Why are you so obsessed about it anyway? It's not like its going to improve your life. I mean a college isn't going to look at a 1530 and say, oh, if he got a 1600 he would be sooo in. Are your parents making you do that or something?

Anyway...in order to get an 800 verbal...you have to know how to read REALLY well, ever since you were a child. (Just like you have to have a talent for math to get an 800 m) So if you don't have that talent, don't force yourself to try to get it! It's unreasonable and you're just going to be too hard on yourself.

So there.

In response to "Bye"

First off, I appreciate the fact that you're not beating me over the head like some of the other people on these forums. I can understand why my goal of a 1600 sounds irrational, so let me just try to answer some of your questions and respond to some comments:

"Every time someone mentions that they got a 1600 on the SAT, or they improved their score by 100 points, you salivate and ask how they did it."
***The reason is because I came here to find more resources. So far, I have found some things (like the PR book, and Jason mentioned that he got a copy of 1-on-1 w/the SAT). In order for me to find new ideas, I have to ask these people what they did. There's a lot out there that I still have to find.

"Be happy with what you have!"
***I'm not even happy w/my life. Aside from that, I cant be happy w/what I have knowing what I put into it. If you were me, you'd be really pissed.

"I don't get why you think it's even that important"
***To be honest, I dont really get it either. I just think that maybe its some kind of sign revealing a lack of innate intelligence.

"Give it a rest!"
***Yeah, beleive me, I'd love to. I just cant. There's so many other things I could have been doing before September this year (in terms of sports).

"Remember only about 580 something people managed a 1600"
***Really?? I'm just curious, but where did you get that stat from?

"Do you know how happy I would be with a 1530?"
***Do you know how happy I would be if I could go back in time and just not study so much for this test. Had I not prepared so much, I would definately settle for a 1530.

"Why are you so obsessed about it anyway?"
***Very very long story.

"I mean a college isn't going to look at a 1530 and say, oh, if he got a 1600 he would be sooo in."
***Some people on these forums think that I'm striving for a 1600 because of college. It's not true. I really dont care where I go to college, or how I get in.

"Are your parents making you do that or something?"
***No, in fact I never really speak with them.

"Anyway...in order to get an 800 verbal...you have to know how to read REALLY well, ever since you were a child."
***Actually, that is a theory that I am trying to do research on right now. Do you need to have an extensive reading oriented background since childhood to do well? I dont know, but I'm looking for an answer and evidence.

Anyway, thanks for the pointer though. I understand that you have good intentions, but it is just something I have to do. Besides, what is it to anybody here?

Rarely is the question asked, "Is our children learning?"

By Scores on Monday, February 17, 2003 - 06:11 pm: Edit

Actually a 1450 is 98th percentile, and anything above 1500 is 99th percentile

lol, yourlocalpresident! Perhaps more often is the question asked, "Are our children learning?"
