Hello...I made a 32 on my ACT, which I just got back, but it says 99 percentile on it. Wouldn't a higher ACT score be 99 percentile, like a 34?

maybe it will be a lower percentage like 97 maybe ACT is different than SAT

ok here's the percentiles i can remember -
36 - 99.98
35 - 99.8+
34 - 99.5+
33 - 99+
32 - 98.7+ (i think it was 7...)
31 - 98
30 - 97
29 - 95
28 - 93
27 - 90
26 - 86
25 - 82
and i havent memorized the others, yet, 'cept for 21 - 56
and
12 - 2
11 - 1
so, as you can see, many of the 32s out there are not actually 99th percentile, but they cant very well exclude them from it...especially since the scores arent that accurate anyway...there are so many scores within the 99th percentile because the frequency of those scores is very low. For example, there were only 195 36s last testing season, and under 2000 35s. there were 1.1 million people taking the test. If you think the 99th percentile covers a disproportionate number of scores, look at the 1st percentile - 11 and below!

how many can u miss to get a 36?

By Brum (Brum) on Friday, April 23, 2004 - 10:10 pm: Edit

well, you can get

a) 2 35's, 2 36's
b) 1 34, 3 36's
or better

for a 36 (assuming they just average the 4 sections together and round for the final score)
