There has been speculation and discussion about The College Board discovering the identities of individuals who violate their policies by posting on College Confidential and/or other web sites.

College Confidential isn't a "cheat" site. We do our best to prevent our forums being used for cheating, e.g., by delaying discussion of SAT questions prior to those tests being completed. The post-test disclosure of multiple choice AP questions isn't cheating, but we have been advised that it is a violation of TCB policy and of the agreement signed by testers. College Confidential isn't party to these agreements and has no relationship with TCB. Nevertheless, for the protection of our members, we have adopted a forum policy not to allow discussions that violate these policies; we feel that it is prudent to limit the exposure of our members to possible sanctions.

I can state without reservation that College Confidential has never disclosed any member information to any third party. We have never disclosed names, e-mail addresses, IP addresses, or other private member information. (Of course, many members make some of this information available in their public profiles, which are available to anyone who looks.)

A general comment about privacy: the Web can be a very public place - we frequently find that people post revealing personal details, entire essays, etc. Please use judgment in what you post and what you reveal in your profile.

Our forum is a great resource to students and parents involved in the college process, and it works because of the thousands of members who share their knowledge and experiences here. Thanks for being part of College Confidential!
