By Mreeves (Mreeves) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 07:16 pm: Edit

I know everyone's a bit flustered with the March SATs, but AP exams are coming up in less than a month!! Here's what I'm taking:

AP Physics B
AP Calc AB
AP Government + Politics
AP Comparative Government (I think that comes along with Gov't and Politics . . . )
AP English Language
AP European History

I'm a junior right now and feeling pretty overwhelmed. :) Anyway, what's everyone else taking??

I'm not too worried about US History, I've started a review on the beginning things, and have been just learning about the early 1900's (slow class). I predict to get everything done by next week, with ample time for more review.

Biology I'm scared straight...I cannot remember this stuff for the life of me. Ive started reading Cliffs, and I predict to read it about three times over before the test. Its just way too abstract for me, unlike history...

*AP English Language- Hoping to 5 this bad boy with no study. I've been told I'm a natural at writing and I've done well on all practice tests in class. I may brush up.

*AP Calculus AB- Not too stressed out... But I will totally brush up on all of the free response questions and the mc question types. I totally have to get used to the TI 89 I'm gonna buy this break. I better get a 5, since I am such a math nerd and I will totally be humiliated if I don't.

*AP Biology- I just don't know. My memory(post-jr. year all nighters every week) is failing me. But I will totally prepare with all I've got for it. I'm hoping to 5 this baby, too.

*AP Spanish Language- OMG! Darn native speakers skewing the curve! I am going to OVERPREP for this if it is possible so I can 5 it. My teacher has been helping me A LOT on this. I would feel like I FAILED HIM if I don't 5 it. I'll do my best. Let's cross our fingers at this point in time, lol.

*AP US History- Ah, my self study. I just don't know about this one. I'm usually awesome with history, but I have yet to buy a test prep book or anything at all on this. I'm a little afraid of that DBQ... Eh. I'd love to 5, but I'd maybe, after some tears, settle for a 4.

I'm not too stressed out. No, I'm lying. I am. I've never taken AP exams before. I hope I don't choke!!!!

Anyways.

Next year APs:

Self study-
Macroecon
Microecon
Statistics

Let's see.
This year, I've gotta take Bio and US History. I'm very confident about the history--maybe a 4, even a 5?

Hmm... I'm not so sure about bio, though. See, our teacher didn't assign homework for most of the year (although, I clearly pointed out to her the length of the book) so we're doing speed learning of the last 2/3 of the book. Excellent. I think I'm pretty strong in science, so I should be alright. (Uh, or maybe not.) The practice tests I've taken aren't especially hard. I can b.s. my way through the multiple choice that I don't know. The essays may prove a little tricky.

But, next year, I'll have: US Gov't, Calc AB, English Lit./Comp., and then two Internet self-studies: Enviro. science and chem.

I can't say that I'm particularly stressed. I mean, it is what it is. I'll just try my best and that will be good enough for me... (if I get 5's, that is.)

By Bfjava (Bfjava) on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 05:27 pm: Edit

11th
psych - a bit worried at the moment but reading Barron's...should be fine - working hard from now till May 11th should be ample study time
calc AB - barely worried, hard to pull 100% obviously but definitely possible to pull a 75% and get a 5

plus 2 more IB tests in psych and chem. i would take the AP chem test but even with HL chem supposedly only 60% of the AP chem material is covered, haha so noooo. plus you'd have to retake chem anyway if you want to go into a premed type major.

By Crypto86 (Crypto86) on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 - 06:16 pm: Edit

Taking the AP US History Exam this May (my first one). I'm a junior and this is my only AP class this year (four for next year though). I'm pretty sure with extensive prep (we will have had over 1 month of prep this year by the time we take the test) so I feel confident for a 5. Our US class is split over two years, so we have a lot of time to go indepth on all the topics. During the beginning of this year we were doing a chapter a week for 5 weeks, with terms and questions for each chapter along with primary document readings. On old AP tests given in class I've gotten 57/80 and 56/80, right at the brink of 5 for MC level. My essays are typically 6-8, with some 9s in there too.

As an aside, my teacher has a major hunch that the DBQ will be on the Louisiana Purchase this year (because it's the 200 year anniversary of the event) - I think that makes a lot of sense. Or he also said there's a good possibility for it being on Brown vs. Board, because it's been 50 years since that case. But who knows?
