ok, how does the application ask for our sat scores? highest math and verbal regardless of sitting, or highest from one sitting? can i still take the october sat to put those scores, hoping that theyll be good, on the application, or is it too late?!

By Scion (Scion) on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 - 11:21 pm: Edit

By Ilovefood (Ilovefood) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 02:31 pm: Edit

i believe that they want a score report, so they'll end up seeing all the test dates that would normally have been on there

By Antique (Antique) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 03:10 pm: Edit

When do we get notified that our score was high enough? Don't they tell us this month?

Has ANYONE heard anything?

By Kewlkiwi102 (Kewlkiwi102) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 04:54 pm: Edit

Nothing yet...
Eep...when are they going to announce it already?

By Gmf05 (Gmf05) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 05:17 pm: Edit

when do u know about commended? i got a 199 :[ and am anxiously wondering.

By Jcoach4 (Jcoach4) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 05:43 pm: Edit

Hey, I got a postal notice saying that I got a certified letter from College Board that they will re-deliver tomorrow...what the do you think it is for? I just took the March 27 SAT...could it have something to do with that?

By Jcoach4 (Jcoach4) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 05:44 pm: Edit

P.S.- I don't think it could be for National Merit stuff cuz I only scored in the 91st percentile and my state is Ohio

You need 95 or 96% (i forget which) to be commended.

By Tkdgal (Tkdgal) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 07:49 pm: Edit

When do commended students find out?

By Dliebers (Dliebers) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 09:06 pm: Edit

i got 95%ile do i have a chance at commended

By Eeeeyor (Eeeeyor) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 10:17 pm: Edit

is it all 99% in your state that get semi-finalist??
do they only take the SAT of would they take the ACT??

By Whtx (Whtx) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 10:36 pm: Edit

Right after the PSATs, i called the company and asked the commended cutoff. THey said 200... Im very pissed, i got 198...

By Modestmouse (Modestmouse) on Monday, April 05, 2004 - 10:49 pm: Edit

226 in CA- how far can I go with that? At least Finalist?

By Ilovemath (Ilovemath) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 01:06 am: Edit

semi-finalist, Modest... Finalist depends on grades, SAT scores, etc. Almost all semi-finalists become finalists.

By Antique (Antique) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 11:05 am: Edit

Check out www.nationalmerit.org

They say that you're informed in April if your score was high, but they don't tell if you're commended or semifinalist.

By Scion (Scion) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 09:59 pm: Edit

like when in april, mid or late?

By Eeeeyor (Eeeeyor) on Tuesday, April 06, 2004 - 11:00 pm: Edit

do the 99 percentile in a state all make semifinalist???

By Modestmouse (Modestmouse) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 01:45 am: Edit

Thanks, Ilovemath... Grades I've got. Hopefully SAT I'll get. ECs and SAT IIs count too? And do we write essays?

By Ilovefood (Ilovefood) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 02:46 pm: Edit

SATIIs I dont think matter...at least i didnt see a place for them on the finalist application last year there's an essay to write, but its just about all the crap you do and stuff.

no, the 99th percentile in each state is not a guarantee to get semifinalist. for example, four of my friends here in IL score in the 99th percentile (one 212, three 213s) and didnt get semifinalist, yet my 214 was enough it depends on the cutoff in your state...

By Songster87 (Songster87) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 03:03 pm: Edit

A good estimate is the top HALF percent of each state. But this is not exact. 222 is the highest it has ever been in ANY state (MA last year). Considering the brutal math curve this year, I don't think that will increase this year. So don't bother asking if you made it if you have 222+

For anyone wondering about "finalist" status...it's pointless. 90% of the people who make semi-finalist go onto finalist and it's too late for college apps anyway. The scholarship itself is next to nothing as well (compared to college tuitions...).

By Eeeeyor (Eeeeyor) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 05:12 pm: Edit

does anyone know about wut it is for alabama?
i know its one of the lowest

By Eeeeyor (Eeeeyor) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 05:16 pm: Edit

when they look at your sat score, do they just want to see that its about the same as the psat or is that what they use to pick finalist. all highest sat score get finalist???

By Gmf05 (Gmf05) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 06:12 pm: Edit

They just want to make sure your PSAT score wasn't some fluke. If it's comparable I'm sure it'll be fine. If you're 100+ points lower you might want to worry, but otherwise you'll be OK.

By Scion (Scion) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 08:49 pm: Edit

on the finalist application, do they consider the highest math and verbal, or highest single sitting?

By Gmf05 (Gmf05) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 09:25 pm: Edit

For NMS it would make more sense to do single sitting (more comparable to the PSAT.) However, I'm just speculating; I don't actually know.

By Scion (Scion) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 10:12 pm: Edit

is there anyone who does know?

By Justice (Justice) on Wednesday, April 07, 2004 - 10:19 pm: Edit

Songster--the scholarship is not "nothing;" many fairly good schools give huge aid to attract NMSF to boost the prestige of their school. They are onlly useful for those who are fixated on the Ivys.

ok seniors who got at least finalist, how did the application ask for ur scores? highest single sitting, or combo of highest math and verbal? please answer- im really worried.

By Ilovefood (Ilovefood) on Friday, April 09, 2004 - 01:05 am: Edit

sorry, scion, i really don't remember - i'll talk to the other three kids that got it from my school and get back to you - and i agree w/ Justice; im getting 4,000 a year just for my finalist status, and i believe ASU (i know...not the greatest of schools...) offers just about a full ride to Finalists...
