How many of the clever people on this board compete in high school math competitions? I do the AMC and USAMTS and hope to qualify for the USAMO this year. What are some of everybody's stories/experiences from competitive math?
btw I feel that this is by far the best kind of prep for the sat. After years of timed competitions the time limit on the sat was a joke. I double and triple checked all of my answers for an 800. The sat is not about what you know, it's about how well you can apply it

the sat is about how well you can catch collegeboards tricks, btw I got an 800 too. And yes, i do math competitions, maybe i'll see you in USAMO some time

I'm on the math team @ school. I'm not really into it. I just joined it for the credit.

I am on the math team and participated in a math competition. I got top in my school but I got a 640 SAT I math.

How how you guys scored on Math competitions? The AMC is my favorite. I aced back in 8th grade and last year as a 10th grader I got a 140.5 out of 150. It would have been a 146.5 but I forgot that 2 was a prime. I'll never let myself live that down

I forget my scores on particular ones, what date is the amc administered? I am going to a math competition a local one in february, which my school has won previous two years. We won the state math competition in georgia as well last year. I went as a sophomore, I had an interview this morning to go to the governors honors program in the area of math, the program is 675 rising juniors and seniors, 2500 were called for an interview, and in the area of math, 105 are selected out of 300-something. I find out if im in, first week of april.
