is semi-finalist for the physics team just the physics version of USAMO qualifier? and are they about equivalent accomplishments to college admissions people?

well... the whole system is different. For AMC exams, schools might have hundreds of students take the first test. 250,000 take it nationwide. The prelim physics exam is much harder than the AMC 10 or 12. Teachers are supposed to nominate their best students. Only a handful might take it at a school, and only about 2,000 take it nationwide. There are 200 semifinalists, which is about the same as the number of USAMO qualifiers.

Thanks for the support! Just wondering, does anyone know where one would take the second exam?

Most people take both exams at their school. The second exams have already been mailed to the sponsoring teachers. They have to be given within a week of the teacher receiving the package. You need to check with your teacher to see if they already have the test and set up a time to take it.
