This is in regards to the $1600 PR class that guarantees at least a 1400 or your money back..

-Has anyone taken this class?
-Does it work?
-Is it worth it?
-What are the classes like? (I heard it is rigorous, all summer and 4 classes per week.)

-Any info would be great.

There's another thread on here where someone did take it and gave it a thumbs up...he did very well.

Do you remember how long ago the thread was or where it is?

I heard of this but it takes up the whole summer. Is there any score guarantee courses that maybe Kaplan or PR offer that are not as long?

Anybody?

I know someone who took PR's SAT prep course without any guarantees, did pretty well and was satisfied. Scores were good to begin with, though.

My brother works for the Princeton Review, I can check with him about that.

Also, are you sure about the 1400? I never really looked into prep classes, but I'm pretty sure I've never heard such a thing. From what I know, they have classes where they give you a practice test in the beginning of the course, and gaurantee that you will raise your score by so many points- I think it is 200?- and there is a gaurantee that if you don't, you can take the class again free. Unfortunantly, if you don't make it that time, too bad for you, no money back.

So I'd check again about that class. Prep courses generally don't, and shouldn't, promise a certain score- and they definitely don't like to give back money!!

By ABC on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 03:32 pm: Edit

Yep, I am almost positive that they guarantee a 1400. I actually think Kaplan is doing this now too. According to my friend he saw a Kaplan ad in a magazine promising this as well, however, he might be mistaken.

By moonlesia on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 07:41 pm: Edit

I checked out the PR website, and this is what I found:
"We know our courses work. Our SAT students improve an average of 140 points, and the top 25% improve a whopping 250 points! When you take our SAT classroom course, we guarantee your SAT score will improve by at least 100 points, or we'll work with you again for up to a year FREE. "
There was absolutely nothing about getting a 1400.

John, where did you find this offer? I'd check it out thouroughly before doing it- sounds like a scam to me.

By ABC on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 11:34 pm: Edit

Yeah, you're looking at the regular review course. This is the SAT Honors course.

Link here:

www.princetonreview. com/college/testprep/testprep.asp?TPRPAGE=240&TYPE=SAT

It says:
"Guaranteed SAT score of at least 1400 or your money back!"

But of course you need a 3.9 GPA, 1250 prior SAT and you need to write an essay.

By ABC on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 11:36 pm: Edit

Strike that thing about the GPA. It used to be a requirement, but now it seems they changed it. Which means I can attend. Now only if there was a class near me. John keep in mind this class is in VERY FEW locations.

By M on Sunday, January 05, 2003 - 01:42 pm: Edit

That's because it's a new class - they just launched it earlier this year. It's already in more locations, though, from when I first checked, so it must be successful if they're expanding it. ABC, you should probably call them and see if they're going to have one near you anytime soon.

M-

Will do, thanks.

By Loren on Friday, February 21, 2003 - 04:05 pm: Edit

yea i heard about the class too...its a nine week course over the summer and its more rigorous than the other courses they offer. You cant miss more than one class and its two hours four days a week for nine weeks. they make you take the SAT before and you have to get atleast a 1250 or 550 or higher on both sections, and write an essay. Also.. they do guarantee a 1400 or money back
hope this helps

I was going to take a class w/Princeton Review. My score was 1470 on the PSAT, but they said it was too high to take it. Someone else I know w/1350 was able to take it, so I belive the cut-off is around 1400 or so.

By kyle on Sunday, February 23, 2003 - 06:31 pm: Edit

yeah, it would have to be around 1400 cuz that's the score they guarantee if you take the class. so if you're already scoring higher, then the guarantee's no good.

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Sunday, February 23, 2003 - 06:40 pm: Edit

Theres a course in Los Angeles, California called Han Sam's SAT prep or something. They guarentee a 1500 or money back. Its a 10 day course. I don't know how the hell they do that, but apparently they do.

By supernova on Sunday, February 23, 2003 - 07:56 pm: Edit

i heard about such a class too. it's an "SAT honors prep class"

its $1500 for a june 30-october 4 classes a week class.

it guarantees a 1400 but you must score a 1250 to get in.

if you THINK about it...this class isn't so wonderful b/c many classes that are much less expensive guarantee a 100 pt increase.... this is a 150 pt increase...not that much better... i'd say it's not worth the money

By Asdf (Asdf) on Monday, February 24, 2003 - 09:25 pm: Edit

I think it'd be better for you to just save your money, study on your own, and invest your money in a for-credit college summer course.
