Can someone become dumber over an interval of time? On my sophmore year PSATs, I got a 66 math/69 verbal. On these SATs I got a 660 math/700 verbal. I know the PSATs are supposedly harder, but what could explain that small increase? Maybe my sheer stupidity?

Math: 710
Verbal: 740

i knew i screwed up math, but i have 2 800's to back me up, so thats okay.

Verbal up from 640 in June to 740 in October thanks to 10 Reals, Xiggi's tests, Kaplan, and LOTS of vocab.

Highest total: 1540

u know wahts funny?

June 2002: 1430
June 2003: 1440
October 2003: 1450

geeeeeeeeeeez. i should have gotten an 800 math. i can tell you FOR sure that i missed 5 Grid-Ins and 1 M.C...so the math curve really wasnt too harsh.

I knew you'd congratulate me no matter what I got, Sandy :). Thanks.

No this is not my max potential in math. Actually, my score didn't improve at all. Before the summer, I had been scoring low 1300's anyways. Then I took some courses and bumped it up to high 1300's. Then to my surprise, I get a 1330. I had no trouble w/ the math at all. It was really easy. Stupid mistakes always bring me down! Therefore, I am pissed off.

Now I have to study for Writing.

I took princeton review. They said 100 point improvement. I went up 60 to 700 V, 680 M. My best scores are now 700 V, 720 M. Highest total 1420.

Hey congrats to everyone who did well (there seem to be so many), and I truly feel for those of you who didn't reach their potential (I have been there before and I know how it feels).

And I want to thank this board for giving me so much vital information that realy improved my performance.

My test area looks like:

10/2003 SAT II Test Completed

French (Reading Only) 800 94

Math Level 2 w/Calculator 800 90

Writing

04/2003 SAT I Test Completed

Math 800 99

Verbal 790 99

Should I be worried by the absence of a writing score?

By Otterpop (Otterpop) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 02:09 am: Edit

Clipse-- I have a friend who would LOVE to have your score. In fact, she just wants over 1000! Are people ever satisfied?

My score: 640 Verbal (87%), 800 Math (99%)

By Petrograd (Petrograd) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 03:41 am: Edit

700V to 760V
740M to 740M
which is so weird because i got a 5 on calc b.c. and i've spoken english for less than 4 years... i expected a higher math score, and a lower verbal, if anything.

By Mythologist (Mythologist) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 10:37 am: Edit

700v and 800m
I'm pretty happy with this score since i never got above 1500 in any of my practiced ones. But now i'm very worried now cuz most of u got such a good score. Are you 1500+ people extremely good at school and have a lot of outside-of-school stuff to show colleges? I'm really good at math and i hope that can help me a lot. but if so many of u are this good, i'm screwed :P.

By Thedad (Thedad) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 01:30 pm: Edit

Has anyone gotten a 790 on Math?

The curve is steep and I'm trying to see if it's even possible, e.g., with two omitted, or one grid-in wrong, etc.

By Sethriddley (Sethriddley) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 01:43 pm: Edit

Thedad, every score I've seen has been 780 or 800. I got 780 here. Hope your daughter did well - I see your posts on here at times. Hope she gets in Yale!

By Perfecte (Perfecte) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 01:57 pm: Edit

aww man, i just took my first SATs and all i got was a 1600 =[ my life is now ruined because i was incapable of processing the same system of questions that is used on this test over and over. now i just might not be admitted to that really posh and expensive east coast college i've been destined to attend my whole life.

By Sunshine916 (Sunshine916) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 03:50 pm: Edit

well 710 math is 94th percentile and 740 verbal is 98th...just to give u an idea. im sure yours are the same or just 1 lower.

By Thedad (Thedad) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 03:58 pm: Edit

Seth, yeah, my D got a 780 on the Math, too and I've seen both 780's and 800's posted here, which got me wondering...is it even possible to get on 790 on the Math? I suspect it might vary from test edition to test edition, where a curve is either slightly easier (a 780 becomes a 790) or slightly harder (an 800 becomes a 790) than most tests.

There was a set of twins at D's school last year. The "smart" one got a 1600, the "dumb" one got a 1590. Which again raises the point, how do you get a 790? Just a curiosity, no great meaning attached.

Based on data from the College Board on College Bound seniors entering college in 2003, there were more 1600's last year than 1590's and 1580's combined(944, 377, 507).

By Crypto86 (Crypto86) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 04:31 pm: Edit

Dude - my 640 V was 87th percentile. Doesn't that seem like a high V percentile for a lower score (It's not uber low, but not 700+ either). I had 670 M for 89th percentile - grand total of 1310. Not bad for my first time.

By Magoo112 (Magoo112) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 04:43 pm: Edit

wow... I did a lil better than clipse (only like 90 points extra)...

I'm so embarassed... (I never bothered to study so maybe that's why... + I went to bed at 2 AM the night before)... but excuses won't change the fact of what I got.

I'm taking them again in Jan and May hopefully I'll reach my target of 1540.

Math 560 62%
Verbal 600 78%
Total 1160

(Actually one of the highest scores in my school between juniors and seniors, second highest I think)

By Thelazyone (Thelazyone) on Friday, October 24, 2003 - 04:58 pm: Edit

Well, I guess I should be proud of my 1590, then, its more elite than the 1580's OR the 1600's...

By Esmereldasy (Esmereldasy) on Saturday, October 25, 2003 - 09:17 am: Edit

I got a 1600, which totally shocked me. I was hoping for a 1500 flat...and expected much much lower.
It's weird, everyone at my school did really really surprizingly well.
My best friend got a 1580 when she was aiming for anything above a 1400 (she improved 200 points!) and my other friend got a 1460 when she was aiming for anything above a 1380 (not as big an improvement, but still amazing!) I also had another friend who got a 1600, and one of my junior friends told me that he knew two OTHER people with 1600s at my school.
It's a bit weird, because on other tests NO ONE (that i heard about, rummer spreads quickly in our school) got a 1600, although a lot of people had 1590s and 1580s and 1570s. I know SOME people didn't do as well as they expected on this test, but by and large, at least at my school, people were very happy with their scores. I'm so frightened that they curved too much or something, and I REALLY got a lower score (which I would have been happy with, but it would be a major let down, if you know what i mean)
It's weird.
congradulations everyone, especially those of you who took it for the last time!
