3 guys go into a hotel. the cost of renting a room is $30, so they split it up to $10 a person. They go to their room, and the hotel manager decides to give them a $5 discount, so he sends a messenger up with the $5. The messenger realizes that he cant split the $5 between 3 guys, so he pockets $2. He gives each of the three guys $1 back. So that means that each person paid $9, and the messenger has $2. $9/person x 3 people = $27, + $2 of the messenger = $29. where is the last dollar?

each person paid 9, so 9*3=27. 2 of that is in the messenger's pocket(27-2=25), and the other 25 is in the drawer. there is no last dollar :-p
