Hey,
I am using Barrons for SATII Writing. I was wondering if it is harder than the original? What about Kaplans? Thank you.

is 4 days of prep enough for this test?
By Sandy (Sandy) on Thursday, October 02, 2003 - 12:00 am: Edit
Huh? I don't know
Are you asking me or commenting? I finished the Barron's book in like 4 days and have been taking practice tests. In the summer, I finished Kaplans over the course of 2 weeks.

oka cause i finished the barrons book in 4 days too and i thought that was too quick. i dont understand the scale tho. how do i find my total score? 41 out of 60 on the multiple choice comes out to what? all it says is "good" and how do i get the total score with my essay.
By Sandy (Sandy) on Thursday, October 02, 2003 - 06:16 pm: Edit
Well, I use the table from the 10 Real SATs to get an approximate idea of my score.

well i dont have that book so can you write down the score scal on here for me. thanx

Each writing test's scale is going to vary, but this is what I use:
1) Multiply your writing sample raw score by 3.43 (ex: a perfect score would be 12 * 3.43)
2) Calculate your multiple choice score (total number correct-.25*number wrong)
3) Add scores from steps 1 & 2.
4) Round to the nearest integer.
101-92=800
91 790
90 780
89 770
88 760
87 750
86 750
85 740
84 730
83 720
82 710
81 700
79 690
78 680
77 670
76 660
75 660
74 650
73 640
72 630
71 630
70 620
69-68 610
67 600

I don't think the scores usually drop that fast below 800... they usually have 2 possible raw scores for each 10-point interval of scaled score.

okay.. so someone ask her question plz ;)

Purge: As I said, this is the scale in the 10 real SATs. It will vary for each test.
"okay.. so someone ask her question plz ;) "
lol..you mean answer?
Someone, please, tell me if Barrons is harder than the real test.

It's somewhat harder than the real test. Not by as much as Barrons is for SAT I or Math 2c. Only a bit tougher.

Thanks. Someone finally answered.
I am starting to think that CC people are sick of me.
Too much of me.
Good luck on the SATs!

By Sandy (Sandy) on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 08:08 pm: Edit
I did not want you to say it. I mean I was looking forward to an "after-SAT II Writing" discussion on October 11. lol
Plus, you do not have a reason to be sick of me. Jason does!!!!!!

Does anyone know roughly how the scores translate into percentiles? Like, if you get 600, or 700, or whatever, that puts you in the top what percent?

Hey
! I don't have a reason to be sick of you!

I'd wish you luck but since you're going to get an 800 (if youre taking Writing) anyways, you won't need it.
By Joel_Set (Joel_Set) on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 10:17 pm: Edit
Yes I meant answer... must have been late or something..
I wish I had "time" to prepare for the SATs. School is just dogging me like hell. I still have alot of time compared to you guys. Well good luck!
By Sandy (Sandy) on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 10:27 pm: Edit
I am going to get an 800 on Writing? Jason, I think you have mistaken me for Shakespeare.
By Jason817 (Jason817) on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 11:36 pm: Edit
I think it would take him more than 20 minutes just to even think of what to write (before he creates a masterpiece).
You'll get an 800 easy. Hell, you could even get an 800 on the Hebrew SAT II if you took it now.
By Sandy (Sandy) on Friday, October 03, 2003 - 11:51 pm: Edit
Thanks for your optimism, but Hebrew? Common, let's get real here.
lol...
I think there has been some transfusion of optimism and pessimism here.
By Sidis (Sidis) on Saturday, October 04, 2003 - 12:07 am: Edit
Hey about Barron's difficulty: Is it true that the SAT I prep book is harder than the real SAT test? If so, how much, is anybody out there prepping with that book?
I suppose that if it is harder, getting a particular score on it's practice tests will mean you would get a higher score on the test day right?
Help Please...
Sidis
By Sandy (Sandy) on Saturday, October 04, 2003 - 01:47 am: Edit
You are absolutely right, Sidis.
By Sidis (Sidis) on Saturday, October 04, 2003 - 01:56 am: Edit
Well then let's add some 50-70 pts to our scores Barrons' fideity trupe! It really makes me look at practice tests from a perspective.
By Rashmi (Rashmi) on Saturday, October 04, 2003 - 09:46 am: Edit
Ok..I'm taking writing on the 11th of October, but since I'm an international student I think I'll have a different paper to answer.
I answered my first Barrons practise test today and got only 4 wrong(2 in sentence errors and 2 in sentence improvement). I'm so happy!!!!

easiest is the multiple choice IMO, which is still not that easy
