Sum1 explain thanks

Having recently missed out on the Matisse retrospective, which has taken Paris and New York by storm, and on the tour of great painting from Philadelphia's Barnes collection, London is becoming ----in the competition to show--------international art exhibitions.

A- a trend-setter...major
B- an also-ran...blockbuster
C- a world-beater...itinerant
D- a mecca...distinguished
E- a connoisseur..esoteric

B.

Because London has missed out on retrospective (exhibition of artwork), it is NOT in the leading role of outstanding art anymore. Hence, you can eliminate everthing except choice B. Fill the second part with "blockbuster", and it fits as well.

By Prethumous (Prethumous) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 01:37 am: Edit

What the hell is an "also-ran"?

Regardless, I say B.

By Raindrops (Raindrops) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 01:41 am: Edit

Also-ran: being or like being unsuccessful, especially in a contest.

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 01:46 am: Edit

yeah, what the hell is "also-ran"

By Canadian_Idol (Canadian_Idol) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 01:53 am: Edit

By Raindrops (Raindrops) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 08:21 am: Edit

=P Yeah, they are not runner-ups. They just ran. Nothing special.

By Akaflex (Akaflex) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 09:29 am: Edit

Okay now heres another jesus so confusing i tell yah,

For those who admire realism, Louis recent film succeeds because it consciously ---- the stuffof legend and tells ---- story as it might actually unfold with fallible people in earthly time.

A- rejects...a derivative
B- anticipates..an antiquated
C- shuns..an unembellished
d- emulates..an ethereal
e- exaggerates..a mythic

By Soulofheaven8 (Soulofheaven8) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 09:35 am: Edit

C

Since it appeals to people who admire "realism", it obviously denounces, or shuns, elements of legends. When stuff of legends is shunned, the story becomes "unembellished", or not ornate with idealism/fantasy.

By Raindrops (Raindrops) on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 08:01 pm: Edit

C, agreeing.

The keyword is "realism"; it tells that the film is against legend and supports real stories. With space 1, we can elimiate all except A and C, and only C's "unembellished" means "real".
