I was wondering what your thoughts are on me maybe thinking of taking BOTH the math SAT IIs? Is it harmful to do so? I have taken precal last year (got a B) and am taking calculus this year but i am VERY bad at math so i cant pick a test. THANKS:)

um how do u do on practice tests?

By Gotspice (Gotspice) on Friday, August 15, 2003 - 01:04 am: Edit

uh..if you're VERY bad at math why would you take two math SAT IIs?

By Fiza (Fiza) on Friday, August 15, 2003 - 02:16 am: Edit

haha. Well i have not taken a practice test yet, but free sample questions come in their booklet. Math IIC has obviously harder questions but i heard that it also has a huge curve. Plus, i didnt want colleges to think im "slackin" cause i AM taking calculus next year so they might think im taking the easy way out if i took just IC? im not exactly sure. I hope i was of help!

I hope that answered ur question Gotspice. Plus im trying to get the highest math score possible for college admissions :)It will help a A/B student like me!

I would like to first start by apologizing for changing the subject of this thread, but I had a burning question of my own.

I'm one of those ivy hopefuls, and I was wondering if it would be better to take the iic over the ic. Does it really matter which one you take?

iiC looks better to ivy adcoms, esp if you plan to go into anything even remotely math related.

Collegefreak: Good question. I don't know the answer, but what i do know is that IIC is closer to college level math and IC is kind of the "easy test with a bad curve," or atleast it has that reputation. If i was an admissions officer, i wouldn't hold one exam over the other - some ppl who get a 760 on IIC get a 720 on IC, but then you can argue that IIC is more important, blah blah...

Are you better at Geometry or Algebra II/Precalc concepts? If you're stronger in Geometry, take Math IC; if you're stronger in Alg II and Precac, take Math IIC. Most colleges consider the IIC and not the IC, but it all depends on where you're applying. Most schools don't even require SAT IIs!

I am much more comfortable with math ic, but I dunno if it is good enough for HYP and Stanford.

If you're applying to HYP and Stanford, you'll want to have a high IIC score.
