By Atpchik (Atpchik) on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 - 09:13 pm: Edit

Hey Incognito,
How has your 1600 goal been going? I was just wondering what happened since you've been away!

By Logic447 (Logic447) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 12:57 am: Edit

He posted on the Princeton Review site a week or two ago.

By Giglisucked (Giglisucked) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 03:07 am: Edit

I saw that too. There was a big hoopla over it because he was on the law board. I'll try to find it.

no offense guys.... but who cares? sounds queerish

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 10:55 am: Edit

that's prolly not our Incognito. Why would he be talking about law and all that crap. All he wanted was a 1600. He didn't even care about college or his future.

By Fairyofwind (Fairyofwind) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 11:06 am: Edit

off topic but giglisucked? aw come on, let's not complain about a movie that critics already delivered philippics over

By Xiggi (Xiggi) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 11:07 am: Edit

That is not Incognito's style.

Incognito loved to type names in his posts when replying. He also would have known about the LSAT.

Anyway, Incognito had his computer stolen and he said that he needed to use the library's computers. My guess is that he just moved on. Let's all assume and hope for him that he got his elusive 800 verbal and was able to let go of that fixation.

By Giglisucked (Giglisucked) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 11:55 am: Edit

That is definitley incognito. He had once written a story up on this board about how he had hated the SAT because it might predict IQ and brought that up several times. So he also feared the LSAT was an IQ test. He mentioned taking a year off before college for the SAT. Incognito did that. He mentioned he wanted to major in molecular biology, incognito said he wanted to do that. He recognized some of the posters on that thread that also posted on College Confidential. He registered with the same e-mail address of I need SAT help @ yahoo.com. So unless someone hacked into his e-mail account also, there is no chance it could be somebody else. See this thread also:

http://discuss.princetonreview.com/forums/Thread.cfm?CFApp=3&Thread_ID=527285&mc=2

It is him for sure.

By Xiggi (Xiggi) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 01:50 pm: Edit

Yep - that is his email. However, it could have been "cookied" on his computer.

AFAI am concerned, it does not matter at all. Incognito helped a lot of people on this board and that is all I care to know. I wish him luck.

By the way, how can anyone stand that PR board? The format and contents are simply horrendous. I feel like taking a shower after reading that board for ten minutes. Yuck!

By Thedad (Thedad) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 02:24 pm: Edit

Xiggi, what I don't understand is the occasional poster here who wants to make CC more like PR.

By Soulofheaven8 (Soulofheaven8) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 02:25 pm: Edit

But I'd say most of us would not mind a seperate section on PR solely devoted to Misc. talks. =)

By Xiggi (Xiggi) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 02:59 pm: Edit

I like the sterile and sanitized environment.

By Fairyofwind (Fairyofwind) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 03:04 pm: Edit

Mostly because it's moderated and censored

By Soulofheaven8 (Soulofheaven8) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 03:07 pm: Edit

I agree, the moderators are doing a good, some might say overzealous, job of keeping CC a serious site.

By Obiwan (Obiwan) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 04:40 pm: Edit

As a moderator, the problem with a Misc Forum is that it would still be moderated and every moderator would hate dealing with it. (It would have to be moderated to keep the board environment in line with what the PTB envision of a safe, welcoming, information-driven board.)

The "What Are My Chances" Forum brings out the worst in some posters.

For what it's worth, I don't think any of us enjoy banning or editing people. Editing is tedious work.

And I'm reluctant to ban people unless they're either a) really flagrantly offensive or b) constantly pushing the limits so that it's easier to ban them than to make half a dozen judgment calls on the same poster everyday.

Some threads give me a bad feeling the moment they start but I let them stay to give them a chance; if they get pointlessly dumb or filled with abuse, they go. Others, like "Where Are The Hottest Guys/Girls/Antelope?" get killed on sight.

Someone in another thread complained about not all posts being treated the same. Truth is, we don't read every post and we may miss stuff until something in a thread catches our eye. Also, speaking only for myself, a newbie will get less slack than an old-time poster, I'll consider the total gestalt of a post, etc. If I had to edit ever snarky word, I'd be busy all day.

Yea the chances forum has some really rude and nasty people

By Obiwan (Obiwan) on Thursday, August 14, 2003 - 06:17 pm: Edit

If you see something rude and nasty we don't catch in time, please use the "Report an offensive message" feature at the bottom of a thread.

There are two classes of people who get banned.

(1) The recent arrival with wretched habits... has never read anyone's Terms of Service... completely oblivious to good sense and good taste. Easy to ban.

(2) The long time poster who either suddenly develops bad habits or has managed to fly under the radar for a long time. Usually such a user will straighten right out when a moderator "suggests" a remedy. Long time posters have something to protect: their feeling of community with College Confidential. But every so often, a long term poster develops a strange behavior that is very much like the bad situation that law enforcement officials run into: "Suicide By Cop"---the perp who knowingly aims a gun at cops only because he wants them to kill him! A similar thing happens on CC. The long-term poster decides that he is going to "commit suicide by moderator." He refuses to respond to requests to modify his actions. He argues with moderators. He starts posting outrageous things. Then the moderator can only "grant him his wish to be banned." Before that happens, the moderator has sampled dozens of this user's earlier, useful, insightful posts and is already feeling regret about having to "do what needs to be done." It's as sad for the moderators as it is for the remaining users who notice a missing friend. Long-term posters who get banned nearly always try to re-register, and are nearly always caught by the moderators and banned yet again.

No joy in being a
