By Bountyhuntersax (Bountyhuntersax) on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 - 11:17 pm: Edit

I've taken the SAT 1, the ACT, five AP exams, and am now beginning my Senior year.

Bio -4, Chem -4, Macroeconomics -5, Computer-4, Gov -4.

SAT I: 1590 (790 Math; 800 Verbal)
ACT : 33 (35 Read; 31 Math; 32 Sci; 33 English)

CUMULATIVE GPA: 4.268 weighted (mostly A's with about 8 or 9 B's)
CLASS RANK : 7/296

Currently studying for the SAT II Math 2c, Writing, and Chem.

How hard are these tests? How long will I need to study? My current "practice test scores" for math are 760...How high should my scores be,

Also, which colleges are the most competitive that I might have a crack at getting into?

Really, you just need to score above 750 on your AP exams.

I'd say scores of above 730 will give you a shot at any Ivy.

Writing: Your reading skills on the ACT and SAT verbal scores are very high, so i'm assuming your probably a very strong essayist and good at grammar. Aim for a 750/760 + on this SAT II.

Chemistry: Your math skills look very solid, and your science ACT score is very good as well. Since you have taken AP chemistry, try to review an SAT II book to just re-grasp some simple concepts. If you don't get nervous on testdays, aim for a 760+ on this one.

Math 2c: Again, your math skills are very impressive. This test is known for its generous curve, so try and make the best of it. Aim for a 760 + on it also.

****Please note that everything i said is of course not the definite score you are going to recieve - for one you could be lying (but you probably aren't), or i could just be wrong = ),but probably not. The scores above are what you should aim for, regardless of what Ivies want. They take people with all kinds of test scores (Aff action, sports players, musicians undermine SAT IIs sometimes) so just make sure you make yours as good as possible. In general, it sounds like someone who is serious about getting into an Ivy should aim for a 750+ on his 3 SAT IIs including writing - of course, you can take more than 3 but they will usually take writing score + next 2 highest scores. hope that helps

I got an 800 on the 2c and 790 writing. I expect you to do as well as me. I suggest Barron's for both Math 2c and writing. Kaplan's writing is good too. Hey, do you have any tips for cr? What is your thought process when you're reading the passages, besides pretending to be interested. I need to bring up the verbal at least 40 points. Good luck with your SAT II's. You can look at my profile to verify that i'm qualified to be giving advice.
