for sat II retakes, do colleges only consider the better score, or do they look at all of them?

They only consider the best score, so go ahead and retake if you believe you can improve the score.

Don't be so fast Carole. Some colleges look at all scores. For instance, Caltech will consider all scores and look for a pattern in scores... I mean, come on: yeah, most colleges say they just look at your three highest scores, but if two nearly identical people are applying to Harvard, but one of them has an additional 750 in a subjects test while the other one doesn't, do you think Harvard will not care? I think it will!

"do colleges only consider the better score" is i think the OP's main question. i'm not sure how much "but one of them has an additional 750 in a subjects test while the other one doesn't" is helpful

Of course they *look* at all of the scores, but if you retake and do better, they'll take that higher score. Most colleges take your highest score when considering your app. Don't be so literal! :-)
