I just got my scores and they went *down* instead of *up* ....
Now what happens? My verbal went up 10...my math went down 40...so what happens if I apply to a college like stanford or Cal-tech and they see that? The score I got this time was 1390...

Keep in mind that most schools (except for CalTech, UC's, and some others) will combine your highest V and M scores, so you actually improved by ten points... I'm in the same boat. Stuck with 500's in verbal. My first was 500-800, my second was 540-790. Eng is my 2nd language, but i still wanna shoot for caltech. I was thinking about Stanford too, but it's something like 65 bucks to apply and I probably wouldn't get into either of these schools. Good luck

that's weird - what would berkeley think of a math2c score that went from a 740 to a 680?

The thing is, those UC schools have their test standards. You must achieve a certain sum of all your test scores in order to meet the minimum requirements. I'm guessing that this is why they don't combine scores. I am applying to three UC schools, and I think that my relatively high ACT score should make up for screwed up SAT V. Maybe they don't combine the scores for that minimum "sum" you need to get, but they do look at your scores when comparing you to other applicants?
SAT II's - they take the highest scores, because you can't combine anything.
Do you think I have a shot at UC schools with 3.92 unweighted, 7 AP's in high school, 19 college credits with 4.00 GPA, 790 M 540 V, 30 ACT, 800 IIC, 720 Phys, and expecting at least 620 Writing? Also, I'm expecting to get 31 on my next ACT, and I might get 740 in Physics. I will retake Writing in December, shooting for at least 680.

wait, are you saying that berkeley actually considers whether your score went down? because i scored a 780 math in may but 740 in oct. thats a pretty dramatic drop
