Hi,

I'm trying to sign up for SAT prep classes, but I don't know which one is better. Anyone have experiences that you can share about Kaplan and Princeton Review? (especially if you tried out both) or is there a different program that's better? Thanks for your help.

Choosing between Charybdis and Scylla :)

And all this time, in travail, sobbing, gaining on the current, we rowed into the strait --Scylla to port and on our starboard beam Charybdis, dire gorge of the salt sea tide. (Odysseus)

Expect that each point gained will cost you between 20 and 80 dollars.

The better program is for YOU to work on your own through the 10RS -with the help of a collection of books- and spend about the same time as attending the classes and driving around.

take princeton review. my brother took kaplan and it was horrible. the classes are crowded and they don't really teach anything...just the format of the exam. plus their lesson and home study books aren't organized well. i took PR a few months ago and it was much better.

I'm signing up for Kaplan tutoring. I hope I didn't waste my money--it's just that PR was 1,100 more expensive. I can't see how they'd be THAT different.

The PR class or the PR tutor was $1100 more expensive? A class is usually a lot less expensive than a tutor.

PR has a reputation for being the best in SAT prep, and I have and really like their Cracking book, so I personally would go with them. The smaller class is probably a good thing!

How to take the SAT's.
Sleep at 8 pm the night before, wake up at 7 am, eat a nice big breakfast, and do your best. If you artificially inflate your scores by paying hundreds/thousands of dollars, 1) you'll be in over your head at whatever college you decide to go to, and 2) you'll be preventing other, more deserving students who don't have money for PR/Kaplan from being considered.

No, the PR Tutor was $1100 more expensive (not the class). And Kaplan offered 16 hour instead of 20 hour options so I went with them.

Thanks Xiggi...so the board prefers PR...anymore comments? BTW, I am going to sign up regardless, it's just a matter of which one. I don't think it's a bad investment, all things considered.

The classes work for some people. Just make sure to do some practices on your own after the classes are done.
