I'm planning to self study for AP economics (both micro +macro), World History, and US+comparative gov't and politics.
For those of you that have already studied the subjects, which books (textbooks and studyguides) would you recommend?

I am just using some of my dad's old textbooks from college. He went to college around 1993.

Same for me! I'm just using a 1992 Macro book. For World History, I used Spodek (but then I had a class!). Barrons is the best for AP World review to my opinion, however this year, kaplan and princeton is coming out with a new book for world history review

I also used the Howard Spodex textbook, but like Eric, it was in conjunction with a class. The only World History review book I used was Peterson's, so I cannot comment on the other ones. Though I have to say that Petersons is good if you do not have time or is unwillingess to read paragraphs, since it is mostly comprised of charts and bulleted points. Some people prefer these succinct books, but you might run the risk of not having all the necessary facts for the test.

the Teaching Company has an intro college econ course on video that is very good (micro and macro). You could use it as your main thing and supplement with a couple of AP review books. It's pricier than a textbook, but some people might prefer this format and it goes on sale pretty regularly at a deeply discounted price. www.teachco.com

for comparative.....i just used reas guide, some stuff i pulled off the web, prior knowledge, and newspapers.........
Tips (things you must know)
-Voters attitudes in all countries
-the EU and opinions of it by countries involved
-political atmospheres especially in china, russia, and 3rd world
-Basic government structures
-leadership positions
-voting systems
If you know all that, you should have a good back ground.........
I got a 4 on this test and didn't use a textbook. just write good essays-one of mine came from a tom clancy book and another from the prior evening news....go figure.

For World History, Peterson's is alright. I think that it's good for cramming literally. The practice tests are good indicators of how you will do on the AP. Albeit, it's a bit more complex and verbose than the real AP. I
