Discus: SAT/ACT Tests and Test Preparation: July 2003 Archive: Ideal SAT scores for Dartmouth
By Thrice (Thrice) on Monday, July 14, 2003 - 07:25 pm: Edit

I plan on applying ED for Dartmouth this fall. I feel that the main area that might be hurting my chances of acceptance is my SAT I scores. I scored a 1440 (780m,660v)on my first try. Are these scores going to significantly hurt my chances of getting into Dartmouth? If so, what would be considered ideal SAT I scores for Dartmouth?

Definitely not

Well...the ideal score for any college would be 1600 I guess, but you should be fine. Your scores definitely put you in the proverbial ballpark, and your other stats will determine whether or not you get in.

Since it's your first try, take it again to improve to a level 1500.

However, 1440 is good enough, as long as you complement it with other priority subjects.

1440 is definetly good enough for Darthmouth. Their average is 1420.

Isn't a 1440 above the school's average? I believe it is, in which case not only would it not hurt you but it well HELP you.

Remember, though, that includes URMs and legacies.

you can't be so literal when it comes to admissions, we've all heard of people with great stats get turned down and people with lower ones accepted. It seems that your score is above avg, which as someone stated before, helps, but to strengthen your chances you will need to craft an excellent essay, as well as a couple of solid activities and hopefully some praisworthy positions!
