what are your science sat II scores and what grade did you take it in - thanks

By Twinkletoes696 (Twinkletoes696) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 05:30 pm: Edit

I never took Science SAT IIs... I did history, math and writing.

Chemistry - 720
One semester of general chemistry at local college. Not very smart, but it worked out okay? Is that a decent score you guys?

By Aoe2guy (Aoe2guy) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 05:54 pm: Edit

yea it is

740 chem.

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 06:02 pm: Edit

730 chem.

How the heck did you manage a 720 with just one semester of general chemistry?

By Twinkletoes696 (Twinkletoes696) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 06:08 pm: Edit

See, I had only honors high school chem, so taking SAT II chem was not a possibility. I'm not starting AP bio till next yr (sr) and physics, so taking SAT II science anything is an impossibility!

Question: WHY do a lot of top colleges require a math SAT II? I'd be better off submitting a test in Hebrew, which I have never taken, then submitting a math score

By Serene (Serene) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 06:16 pm: Edit

um... because math is the fundamental science to all other sciences? plus all the high schools have math requirements too, so they just want to see how well you learn i guess.

bio - 710 in 9th grade
chem - 690 in 10th grade
physics - 700 in 11th grade

i suck in science!!

Chemistry--730 9th Grade (First Year Chemistry)
Biology (M)--780 10th Grade (AP Biology)

By Aoe2guy (Aoe2guy) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 08:44 pm: Edit

Encomium, or any others that did well on the SAT II in chem., how good were you guys in honors chemistry, and if you were in AP Chem, do you think someone needs to be in AP chem to get a 750 - 770 on the Chem sat2 in terms of content and concepts?

By Angrod (Angrod) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 09:15 pm: Edit

How did I get a 720 with just one semester of General Chemistry? To tell you the truth, I have no idea! I was predicting something around 630-650. The one practice test that I took before I got a 630 on. However, I bought the Kaplan's study guide and read the whole thing. I also understood the concepts taught in my one course pretty well. I think the only way that I got a 720 was studying like crazy with the Kaplan book before the test.

By Encomium (Encomium) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 10:09 pm: Edit

I was very good in honors chemistry (high A average, took chemistry competition test for first year students and placed 11th in the state and 3rd in my division and 1st in my high school) After AP, I'm thinking a 750+ is definitely possible.

By Heatwave345 (Heatwave345) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 10:31 pm: Edit

i took AP Chem and got a 740 on SAT II's (i probably got a 4 on the AP exam)

i was too overconfident and did not study for the SAT II test at all (because i just taken the AP exam)

btw, i tested out of regular chemistry

780 physics 11th grade

By Mattman (Mattman) on Saturday, July 12, 2003 - 02:02 pm: Edit

I took one year of standard physics (honors and AP is not offered at my school) and didn't realize that SAT IIs are for kids who've taken higher-level and calculus-based physics.

Cause it was "conceptual" physics, I bombed it, even though I was one of best students in my school. Made a 590, or 28th percentile.

(for a comparison of how much taking an AP class helps, I took AP US History and made a 770 on the SAT II).

By Bullrider7788 (Bullrider7788) on Saturday, July 12, 2003 - 02:18 pm: Edit

I got a 760 on Chem in 10th grade.

By Aoe2guy (Aoe2guy) on Saturday, July 12, 2003 - 02:19 pm: Edit

Is the content and material tested on the Chemistry SAT II exam only taught in AP chemistry, or can a "smart" kid have a good Honors Chemistry teacher, study for a month with an SAT II Book, and get a 750+
?

By Bullrider7788 (Bullrider7788) on Saturday, July 12, 2003 - 08:31 pm: Edit

I think if you do all of the above, you can get a 700+. Most people need AP Chem (like me) to get a 750+. The curve is a bit harsh, and the test is a lot of trivia.

Biology M - 710 (9th grade)
Chem - 700 (10th grade)

I bought the Kaplans physics SAT II book and I am gonna self-study this summer. Mostly to get a jump on the class and to be extra prepared for NJ Science League. I was gonna go with Barrons, but their physics book absolutely sucked, so I looked at Kaplans and theirs was really good. Is the physics sat ii hard?

By Apg (Apg) on Saturday, July 12, 2003 - 11:45 pm: Edit

I think the answer is that unless you've taken the corresponding AP, a really intense honors/advanced course or are prepared to do a tremendous amount of self studying you will not do well (break 700) on a subject based SAT:II. One qualification to this is the Writing subject test; you either have a "ear" for the grammar, or you don't (study can help, however).

Biology M - 790 (10th grade after AP Bio)
Chemistry - 800 (11th grade after AP Chem)

By Jason817 (Jason817) on Sunday, July 13, 2003 - 01:49 am: Edit

I agree with Apg

By Crypto86 (Crypto86) on Sunday, July 13, 2003 - 09:34 am: Edit

Yeah, but I didn't do AP Bio or AP Chem and I still broke 700. Why, is physics that much harder?

By Manchesterfrank (Manchesterfrank) on Sunday, July 13, 2003 - 12:00 pm: Edit

650 Bio M (Freshman)
780 Chem (Soph)
800 Physics (Soph)

All after honors courses... haven't taken any science APs yet, though I'm taking AP chem and phys next year. OBVIOUSLY my true strength lies in biology, wouldn't you say? :-P

By Crypto86 (Crypto86) on Sunday, July 13, 2003 - 02:02 pm: Edit

Seems like you are a math person with 780 chem and 800 physics - bio is more memorizing concepts (for the core class anyway - well not AP, but just honors).

By Cremebrulee (Cremebrulee) on Sunday, July 13, 2003 - 05:57 pm: Edit

670 Bio M
Advanced Biology Freshman year.

780 Chem after AP Test

By Manchesterfrank (Manchesterfrank) on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 03:36 pm: Edit

True, I am more of a math person I suppose. Hm, I haven't gotten my BC score yet in the mail... odd... w/e... I wish they'd put them online like the SATs though

By Bradk (Bradk) on Sunday, July 27, 2003 - 07:48 pm: Edit

780 Biology-M after taking Biology in 9th grade
730 Chemistry after taking Chemistry Honors in 10th grade
750 Physics after taking AP Physics B in 11 grade

Although I think that most people would do better than I did after taking AP physics...I didn't try that hard..it was the 3rd test, and I was tired! ;)

By Juniper (Juniper) on Sunday, August 31, 2003 - 04:03 am: Edit

690 Biology M (after ap bio)
I scored a 5 in AP Bio

My scores doesn't make sense...
Do you think i should retake Bio SAT II again???
