Does anybody knows how and where to take SAT exam in China? I'm planning to do it in October.

By Xiggi (Xiggi) on Saturday, July 05, 2003 - 07:13 pm: Edit

Check College Board website.

They have discussed the availability of SAT in China and the various options.

I browsed it, but didn't found anything.

Can you tell me where it is or provide a link?

By Serene (Serene) on Sunday, July 06, 2003 - 08:08 pm: Edit

If you read Chinese,

testing centers in China

call them about the actual tests.

You are right. The link may have been removed. Keep the post fresh. I am sure that some students from China will give you a better answer.

Here are a few things:

Note: There is no SAT test centre in China in 2003. If you have been required to take SAT I and II but are presently residing in China, you have the option of taking the ACT instead. The ACT is a curriculum-based test and consists 215 multiple-choice questions to be completed within 3 1/2 hours. Candidates are tested on four areas - English, Mathematics, Reading and Science Reasoning. Kindly refer to ACT's website at www.act.org for more information on test dates, test venues and registration. No minimum score for ACT has been stipulated.

What examinations are required?

SAT or ACT
All applicants to Bryn Mawr must submit the results of the SAT I or the ACT. The SAT exams are waived for residents of the People's Republic of China where the test is not available. Three SAT II tests are recommended but not required for those students living abroad.

I also went to College Board and mimicked a new registration. At the Test Center page, there was no option for China on October 2003.

That does not look good.

Thank you Xiggi.

Serene,

The chinese page seemed to be a fack, they don't do the SAT exam. I think that web page is created just to attract attention and make people to call them so they can promote their other business.

By Serene (Serene) on Sunday, July 06, 2003 - 08:57 pm: Edit

Heh. True enough I did what xiggi did. But I thought I heard a friend in China telling me about SAT (he actually said the testing center was too far from where he lived so he had to take GRE instead). Maybe it's just this year. :(

Serene,

Which test center your friend have found but is too far for him/her?

I'm willing to go everywhere as long as it is in China.

Are you risiding in Beijing? I took the test in the International School of Beijing - Shunyi. Donno about the other provinces. What passport do you hold? ISB told me that as long as you are a foreign passport holder you would be allowed to take the test in ISB. However when I took the actual test I saw ppl holding PRC passports.

The website of ISB is http://www.isb.bj.edu.cn/contact.htm

Hi Perpendicular,

Do you go to school at ISB?

I visited ISB's website, they seemed to have some trouble with SARS which tightened their rules on the accessibility of non-schoolers. I want to take SAT in October, but I don't know whether they will let a student who don't go to school their to take the SAT.

And what make the thing even worse is that yes I'm a PRC passport holder.

Do you think I have a chance of taking it at ISB?

By Triangle (Triangle) on Sunday, July 06, 2003 - 09:28 pm: Edit

And Perpendicular,

When was your last SAT taken at ISB?

By Perpendicular (Perpendicular) on Sunday, July 06, 2003 - 09:45 pm: Edit

I do not go to ISB but my mom knows some parents there. I can inquire them if you need me to. However now they're currently in summer vacation and most of them went back to their own countries that you'll have to wait until Aug.
I don't think there will be any problem to take a test there because of SARS. I went there for the SAT test in both May and June, when SARS was prevailing violently, and there was no restriction of non-schoolers. At the most it will ask you to fill in a form that's all. But I promise to inquire this for you since I plan to take the test in Oct. too.
I did see ppl holding PRC passport took the test. But it was in Jan. I donno about the policies now. Why don't you email ISB and ask them about it? I am sorry I maybe not help you with this problem because all of the ppl I know there hold foreign passports. But I will try my best to find someone who can.

Perpendicular,

You can e-mail me at ningyan36@hotmail.com.

Don't even bother to send e-mail to my e-mail address in my profile, I never use that.

Is the e-mail address in your profile your true e-mail address?

They offered the SAT in June in Taipei.

Would that be a choice or Hong Kong?

By Ashleycrombie (Ashleycrombie) on Saturday, December 06, 2003 - 10:55 am: Edit

the SAT I and II exams are available at the Shanghai American School, but it is a closed testing center, so you will have to call the school to make arrangements.
